IAA:  What is your music background?

KID KRIS:  I studied a variety of instruments including violin, guitar, drums, keyboard and etc. from the first grade up until the 6th grade. I also started writing songs when I was 8 years old. I’m 21 now, so music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.

IAA:  Why do you want to record and release your own music?

KID KRIS:  I’ve always felt that my music spoke to my generation and in Birmingham, people are used to the same local artists. No one has really broken outside of Birmingham, AL since Ruben Studdard and I feel like my music has the potential to be great.

IAA:  What are your songs about?

KID KRIS:  I write songs about life. I try and write the type of songs that people can relate to. It’s either something that I’ve gone through or something that I will probably go through. I listen to a lot of my older songs and they still speak to me. I always saw my music as being ahead of my time. Material that I wrote and recorded years ago still seems relevant to me like I just wrote and recorded the song yesterday.

IAA:  Who is your fan base directed towards?

KID KRIS:  My fan base is anyone from ages 14-30. College and high school students are my main target. Both groups can relate to the music in some way. I just like to make fun music and have something that’s gonna catch people’s attention when they hear it.

IAA:  Who are your musical influences?

KID KRIS:  Since a young age, Pharrell Williams has been one of my favorite producers/artists and one of my biggest influences. I love the way that he always pushes the envelope of music. Kanye West is another influence, even though sampling has been around for generations it wasn’t until he broke into the music scene that I really took notice to sampling and incorporated it into what I was doing musically. Outkast is another influence, with their own unique sound. They brought underground to main stream and made it look cool.

IAA:  How would you describe your music to people?

KID KRIS:  I always tell people that I consider my music eclectic. I can’t put it into one genre. I like to do all kinds of music. I love fusing different sounds together but still being original with my music so I stand out among every other artist. I’m very influenced by the 90’s, the music, the style, the culture. Everything about the 90’s represents me and the era in which I was born.

IAA:  What makes you stand out from other artists?

KID KRIS:  The fact that I’m never scared to step outside the box and try new things. I love to experiment with the music and really sitting down and making my own beats. I connect more with the music when I’m the one that’s putting together all the pieces to the puzzle. To me, writing and recording a song is a lot like building a house. It’s going to take some time for it to come out the way that you want. That’s why I like to be very hands on with the music.

IAA:  What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?

KID KRIS:  I’m currently working on two projects. One is a mix-tape I titled “Workaholics.” I’m just hitting the halfway mark with that project, it’s coming along great. I produced a couple songs on the project with my boy Nik Jackson, Perry Mason, and Drufio. It’s gonna be epic once it’s done and released in September. I’m also working on an EP sort of like an introduction to Kid Kris as an artist. That’s gonna be titled “I Am..” and that will be out in the fall.

IAA:  What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

KID KRIS:  My career goals are to continue working hard on the music and grow as an artist. In 10 years, I see myself with a successful music career, doing production and writing for other artists. I also plan on starting up my own record label and bringing on a bunch of talented kids from Alabama. I know if we had someone to believe in us a while back we would be on top, so I want to provide an opportunity that Birmingham never offered to upcoming artists.

IAA:  How can your fans access your music and contact you?

KID KRIS:  You can check out the music at www.soundcloud.com/creebrzy or www.reverbnation.com/ykmusic. To get in contact with me please visit AK-Yung.com and follow me on twitter @creebrzy. Don’t forget to like my Facebook page, www.facebook.com/kidkris.
