IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What City and State are you from?
ZACARIA JAMES: I am from the Mid-West State of Indiana and reside in downtown Indianapolis. I was born and raised in Russiaville / Kokomo Indiana area.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
ZACARIA JAMES: Within a two to three year time span I developed this movement in Indiana and grew from 15,000 total hits on YouTube to a total of 240,000 + hits. Within the same time span I grew from less than a 1000 fans in the state of Indiana to over 11,000 loyal fans spreading as wide as Europe and even as far as Spain and the UK. In my college years at Indiana University I Majored in Political Science and Military Tactics, during that time Slip N Slide Records labeled me as an “On the Grind” artist for my musical buzz. I have been placed on over 30 social media music sites for my work/ projects, both domestic and overseas. I’m widely known for my diverse and adaptive capabilities of combining genres and styles to produce my own sound. Starting at the age of 15, I have worked with various Artists and DJ’s like DJ Woogie (SODMG) and Lil Playboii (#300 Club Ent.) I also landed prime opening spots for artists like Do or Die and Travis Porter. I’m currently working to release my new and upcoming Mix-tape “Good Morning Mr. Martinez” which is projected to release in December of 2011. Along with my ability to Sing and Rap at any given moment, I’ve also been a Hip-Hop Instructor, teaching the youth various ways to express themselves through movement and other things such as rap, writing, singing, dance, producing, and photography to morph into what some people describe as the New Face of Hip-Hop/ A New Generation of Music.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your Music?
ZACARIA JAMES: Well the main reason as to why I would want to record and release music is simple, music is my passion. I personally live by the quote “The universe doesn’t know the difference between what reality is and what a dream is. So in my mind anything is possible” I feel the same way about the way I record and portray that passion when distributed to the community (my people). I’ve been recording music since I was 15 years old; to be honest it’s my way of life.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
ZACARIA JAMES: My songs are about living life, and letting go of the everyday stresses. You know people have this weird perception that whatever cards you were handed are the same cards that you’re going to have as you mature. I believe that you can change your stars no matter what situation you’re handed. To me everything is from the mind so if you can think it you can do it. That’s what my songs are about.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
ZACARIA JAMES: Quite frankly I can’t just credit my influences to one or two specific people. My influences are anything and everything. I love every bit of music that comes out and into this world. I feel like when an artist has that type of mindset and openness they can truly progress in their music.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
ZACARIA JAMES: I would describe my music as new generation music. I personally feel like my music is a revolutionary blend of multiple genres but if I only had a couple of words to describe it I would totally call it Hip-Hop/EDM
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?
ZACARIA JAMES: The first two things that come to mind are my charisma and my work ethic. I love people and I feel like everyone is entitled to their opinion. Regardless of what background they come from they still listen to music. So I feel like my student mentality in general fuels my charisma. The second thing that sets me apart is my work ethic. I put it in my brain everyday that no one can work harder than me and the only way I keep my mind and body in tune with it is just by progression of statistics in my own music game. My belief is that if you work harder than everyone else then there is not a single thing that can stop you.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in your music career and
how did you overcome?
ZACARIA JAMES: I would have to say that the hardest thing that I had to face in my music career was trying to convince my loved ones around me that I was serious about music. I come from a small town of Russiaville with a population of 1500. It’s so small that we literally have one stop light. Ha-ha, I still love it though but the way I overcame this challenge is just by simply working hard at it and never giving up. I’m just too hard headed to quit. Failure is never an option to me.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?
ZACARIA JAMES: I’m actually working on a few things right now. I’m working on “Good Morning Mr. Martinez” which I plan on releasing at the end of this year. It’s going to be a 21 song album with a video to each song. My personal goal is to average 1 million views per video. Some people would say that’s crazy. Well I think it’s because no one has tried hard enough to accomplish the task and I think with the right resources and work ethic it can be accomplished.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
ZACARIA JAMES: Well I have three main career goals right now. The first one is to be one of the pioneers in the state of Indiana in building the music industry here in Indianapolis. This place is the perfect place for a market and the people here have so much talent. I’m excited to be a part of this movement. Now for the second goal, well it’s to be able to start a foundation for people who are musically inclined and don’t have the resources. I can honestly say that being musically inclined is hard a lot of times. So with this foundation I want to give back to the community and be a guide to the future artists of our Industry. Now last but not least the third goal is to be a songwriter in any genre. I love writing music, shoot, I do it all the time and in the most random locations but I really feel like if I can develop myself as an artist to be able to write in any genre then sky is the limit and in ten years I can accomplish all these goals with a new set of goals in the works.
