IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Tell us about your music background?
KG THA PHENOM: I was always surrounded by the beautiful creations of music, growing up. My family had a various selection in the genres of music they listened to. As a result, I got a little taste of everything and found myself wanting to understand it more. My dad always kept a collection of CDs and old vinyls. My love and curiosity for it grew with age.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What inspires you to create music?
KG THA PHENOM: Everything pertaining to existence inspires me to create music. I strongly admire the thought of being able to incorporate any form of creation into structural relativity. Inspiration resides in every form you can imagine. Express, relate, entertain and encourage are my greatest intended aspects. I want to impact the world as a whole in a powerful stride, but most importantly provide a better life for my loved ones and self.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some of your biggest accomplishments to date?
KG THA PHENOM: I have opened for over 25 internationally recognized artists (J.Cole, Wiz Khalifa, Kevin Gates, Young Thug, Juicy J, Machine Gun Kelly etc.). I have been mentioned, or on the radio about 5+ times. Headlined 2 of my own shows. Hit over 120,000 Spotify streams. At nearly half a million plays total, my music has been heard in over 200 cities and 50+ countries. Dropped singles featuring some big names, and digitally released my music through over 30 engines.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: You have done some extremely well as an independent artists, what are some things that have contributed to your success?
KG THA PHENOM: First and foremost I would like to credit my spiritual beliefs. I couldn’t have accomplished anything without the support of my loved ones and friends. Not to mention any bit of assistance I have ever received from amazing fans and supporters overall. I have a whole list of people I could give credit to, but particularly want to thank/credit Devon Green, Trilla Joosten, Saul Alaniz, and DJ Ramsey. These are my brothers and partners who have made the greatest impacts on my career. Wouldn’t be anywhere near where I stand today without them.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is some advice you can give to upcoming artists?
KG THA PHENOM: Never give up if it’s what you truly want. A music career is no walk in the park. I personally always hope for best while expecting worst. Nothing is ever a guarantee, so it’s good to understand and expect that as a possibility. You must be strong enough to endure all the ridicule, because not everyone will be a fan of your music, to say the least. The music industry is 90% business & 10% music. You have to focus on much more than simply being talented. Build yourself as a person, artist and businessman. Learn how to network, mark and brand yourself as a product. Lastly I’d say to shoot for the stars. We’re all inspired by another artist, but don’t try to replicate their material. Be original and bring a whole new wave to the table. At the very least recreate and master it.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some projects, shows, and events that you have coming up this year?
KG THA PHENOM: I’m about to release a new LP titled “Witty Wonderland.” with my brother Dman Lee soon. I’ll also be releasing our single with Future through several digital outlets. Working on a whole new project as well, and releasing multiple new music videos. Right now my team and I are setting up for upcoming shows and trying to get involved with big festivals for next year. I’m also working with my brother Saul on an independent release for his new clothing line. Big things are in store, I promise.
