IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?
KID: I was porn in Philadelphia PA, In the north Philly region. When I was around 3 years old I was taken to live with my grandparents in Center City due to a bunch of complications and been living there ever since. Growing up in the heart of the city wasn’t necessarily hard for me, I would say it was interesting. Only because I got to see live through two different perspectives. I was living on my dad side, which made middle class income since my grandparents both worked for the government, and then there was my mothers side of the family which made less; And then there’s me, stuck in the in the space between the two, feeling like I don’t really fit in anywhere.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
KID: I’ve been listening to music for as long as I can remember. The first song that I can recall listening to was my mom’s favorite song “I’ll Be Missing You” by P.Diddy, and naturally it became my favorite song because it’s really the only thing I had from her since she died when I was 3 years of age. Growing up music has been my way of understanding and expressing, with songs like “In The End” by Linkin Park, it showed me that I wasn’t alone in this world and become one the stepping stones that lead me to become KiD. Even to this day you can hear traces of past influence in each song that I make.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?
KID: I have a story to tell, A story about a young boy growing up in a constant battle with life from the time he was 3, and now I’m 22 about to turn 23 so you can see that it’s been a long road lol. My music is more than a simple recording or words on a piece of paper, My music is my life. If you wanna understand anything about me, go listen to a random song and you’ll under one fragment of my life. If you wanna understand a whole situation listen to the mixtape titled “KiD”. At the end of the day I’m recording and releasing my music because I want to express my life, and if someone finds it and relates, I hope it’ll pull them out that same darkness I was in & currently still battling.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
KID: They are about growing up, about a boy becoming a man, but still keeps his “KiD” like attitude, They are about letting go of the past and living in the “Here & Now”. They are about building a better future for my Kids and my family. My songs are songs of my ancestors, sung to guide me and yours to safety. A place where it’s okay to cry and be weak, but also a dojo to become strong. My songs are about living, because not everybody gets to live even if they are alive.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
KID: Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Biggie, Chester Bennington, and TuPac. Each of these artist has something that I wanna become! A savior (Chester) a wise man beyond his years (TuPac), A hustler (Biggie), a underdog (Eminem), and a force to be worried about (Kendrick). Only when I’m able to master all of these different traits will is when I’ll say I’m a true Artist.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
KID: I would describe my music as “Over Looked”, Only because each song has a message to be learned from. Almost like a 90’s sitcom tv show, wheres always something to be learned from. And people just overlook every song till weeks or months or even years later. I think it’s because people don’t wanna pay attention to a lesson. They still want to have fun and party, but sooner or later reality has to hit, and that is want my music is about.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?
KID: I would say………. the fact that I my style is something you wouldn’t expect. No one could really see me of all people a rapper, and this kind of rapper at that. For the people who do hear my music, it leaves them aww as they feel every word and the voice that comes with it is not one they are familiar with. Most artist either sounds like someone already or got some type of clever way of making there music pop. When it comes to me, I become the music I’m preforming.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in your music career and how did you overcome?
KID: The hardest challenge would be going it alone. I haven’t always did Hip-Hop, I started in the 10 grade year with my brother and I was actually really bad at it. I had no rhythm, I rapped on a off beat, and I just wasn’t musically accurate. After time went by I got better, but by the time I got to a good place with my voice, my bro’s went their own way. Leaving me to myself, and I already put a lot of time into my music so I wasn’t just gonna quit. Now I can stand on my own, and out of many rappers I know. I’m one of the best ones who can make it somewhere.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?
KID: My next mixtape “Twilight” and 2 EPs titled “Life of a Panda” & “KiD: Greatest Hits”. Each tell a separate story that connects to the same end point.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
KID: My goal is to become one of the greats. I know it’s kinda generic, but it’s what drives me to work harder because I see that I can actually achieve that feat. As for where I see myself in 10 years……..well, you might not understand my answer, but I see myself being “Free”. I see myself watching my kids grow up and living carefree with the lessons I will teach them. I see myself changing the world at my feet, because it’s not about me. It’s about the future generations, it’s about my sons and my daughter, and they need the right platform do work on.

KID: By following me on my Instagram (@all_things_k.id), Twitter (@the-kid-music), Soundcloud (the_kid_music), and Youtube (The KiD).
