Philly Rich is a rap star hailing from Philadelphia. Throughout life, he has seen the good, bad, and the ugly, and has used music to expose his different experiences. Growing up listening to all genres of music he developed a love for writing. Philly wrote poems as a young child and to this day continues to do so. Philly Rich graduated from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania with honors in 2007 and obtained his BA in Sociology. While there he was also a college athlete playing football for the Cheyney Wolves. After college Philly served in the military with the United States Air Force. Military experiences have allowed him to expand in what he puts into music. The losses, the joys, the struggles and success have all influenced his sound. After leaving the military ranks, Philly decided to move around to spread his sound. Moving from Philadelphia to Georgia to Delaware and finally back in Pennsylvania, Philly was given the opportunity to build several relationships within the music industry. Now currently an owner of a publishing company and signing his first artist, Philly has been on a mission to break the ranks of best ever. With the support of his wife, family and friends he has been able to attack his goals with force and doors begin to open. Philly is constantly making music with over 6 mixtapes, an EP soon to be released and 50 plus songs floating around the internet.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?

PHILLY RICH: I was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. I moved around the last few years trying to build an audience, reputation and relationships. So far, it’s been beneficial. I currently reside in Levittown, PA. So, I didn’t go far. I have to keep my city close by.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?

PHILLY RICH: My musical background started as far back as elementary school. I was on choirs, I’ve written songs for church and played with writing R&B songs back then. I’ve always taken a liking to instrumentals and I used to just listen to those more than the actual songs.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?

PHILLY RICH: I want to avoid the 360 deals that a lot of artists end up receiving. Also, I want to put as much money as possible into my pocket by getting paid for all my works. I started my own publishing/record label called Young Fly Flashy Entertainment, LLC (#YFFENT).

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?

PHILLY RICH: My songs are about everything from my own life, having fun, goals and dreams, success and failures. I talk about it all.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who is your fan base directed towards?

PHILLY RICH: My fan base is directed towards those wanting that good music. Crafty bars, wordplay, gems, and good vibes.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?

PHILLY RICH: My musical influences will always be Nas, Notorious BIG, Jay Z, Kanye West and Wale. Yes, that’s a long list but I always felt like each one of them had something in their music that affected me. The honesty, the passion and the hunger is huge in their songs. My songwriting comes from my experiences turned into poetry. I just take those poems and turn them into songs.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?

PHILLY RICH: My music is genuine, passionate, personal and real. I discuss real issues in my life that relate to millions of other people. I stay true to myself which reflects in my song writing. I’m a poet. When I rap you hear someone who takes his time with his lyrics.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?

PHILLY RICH: I stand out from other artists because I sound nothing like the other artists. I stayed in my lane and perfected my craft. Once I decided to do music I stuck with that course. I evolved but I never changed my position. I hear what sells and what plays but if that isn’t my lane I just keep grinding until I am heard. I’m genuine.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?

PHILLY RICH: I am currently an owner of my own company. YFF is a publishing company for all genres of music. On top of that I have a mixtape called #Verse-atility and finishing up my EP H.O.T.L (Heart on the Line.)

I’m always working; whether its producing, engineering, writing, recording or managing. I’m working.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

PHILLY RICH:  My ultimate goals is to finally reach the masses. Be on the big stage. In VIP with the heavy hitters. And be recognized and respected. As much as I want to be a platinum artist, I want to run an even more successful label. In 10 years, that will be a reality.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How can your fans access your music and contact you?

PHILLY RICH: My music can be found on soundcloud (YFFENTLLC) and audimack (YFFENTLLC.) I’ll be releasing #Verse-atility on all major websites the end of October and my EP will follow shortly after. My single “I’m Showing Out” is available on iTunes, Google, Amazon Music, Spotify and Songcast. I can be reached on Facebook (Cleve Richardson and Young Fly Flashy Entertainment, LLC), twitter and instagram @YFFENTLLC also on instagram @therealphillyrich.
