Wyclef Jean was shot in Haiti on Sunday (March 20th) — just hours before voting was slated to begin in the Presidential election. According to Allhiphop.com, while details are sketchy, Wyclef was reportedly shot in the hand. He has been released from the local hospital in the city of Delmas.
Wyclef’s rep said in a statement, “We have spoken to Wyclef, he is ok. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.”
- According to The New York Daily News, Wyclef claimed that the bullet grazed his hand, while police say that he was only injured by glass. Wyclef said, “The way I can explain it is that the bullet grazed me in my right hand. I heard blow, blow, blow and I just looked at my hand.”
- Wyclef is in Haiti supporting Presidential candidate Michel Martelly, who is running against Mirlande Manigat, a law professor who is also the former first lady of Haiti.
- Rev. Al Sharpton told Allhiphop that he was praying for Wyclef and the people of Haiti during the elections yesterday. He said, “We are happy that Wyclef is okay but we continue to pray for him and for a peaceful and fair election today in Haiti.”
