Born and raised in the North Philly section of Philadelphia, Jamal Lo’ Pro Griffin grew up listening to the likes of Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Prince. He fell in love with hip-hop after listening to Eric B. and Rakim, The Too Live Crew, Run DMC, and LL Cool J. Kicked out of his parent home at the age of 15 due to his wild behavior, Lo pro credits hip-hop as the force that gave him direction and helped him get his life back on track.
With his unique voice, strong lyrical content, and style, Lo Pro is a musical force to be reckoned with. He has created a strong buzz for his music by performing in various shows across the tri-state area. With his popularity steadily increasing, Lo’Pro finds his music being in demand, and his loyal army of fans anticipate the release of his debut album.
IAA: What is your musical background?
LO’Pro: I started rapping in 1993 after attending a ram squad/100x concert at cub dances. The next day I brought a composition book. I was always great with conversing, so rap came easy to me.
IAA:Why do you want to record and release music?
Lo’Pro: I record because I feel that I have a lot to say. I just want to give a piece of me to the world. I also want to be respected as a writer. I want to release my own music and create my own destiny.
IAA: Who is your fan base directed towards?
Lo’Pro: I want my fan base to be a world wide. I want everyone to enjoy my music. You never know who your biggest fan is going to be.
IAA: Who are your musical influences?
Lo’ Pro: My musical influences are great emcees, such as Run DMC, LL Cool J, 2 Live Crew, Eric B and Rakim, The Roots, Beanie Sigel, Tuff Crew, Cool C , Ram Squad, A Tribe Called Quest, Ice Cube, Busta Rhymes, Tupac, Biggie, Jay Z, Big Daddy Kane, EPMD, Kool G Rap, Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff. I could go on for days.
IAA: How would you describe your music to People?
Lo’Pro: My music is powerful. My music is inspirational. My music is love. My music is pain. I write about the struggle. I write my music for the people.
IAA:What makes you stand out from other artist?
Lo’Pro: I am myself everyday. I walk and talk differently than the next person. I don’t mind showing emotions on my records. I am also a well rounded writer and a trendsetter.
IAA: What are your music career goals?
Lo’ Pro: I want to build my brand in the music industry and become a superstar. I would also like to start a major record company in Philadelphia. I would like to tour the world and meet new people. I am determined to be one of the great ones.
