Get To Know MARK CANNON-Philly’s Uprising Star

A 47 year old survivor one who has been favored and blessed by the Lord to still be alive and doing well. Mark Cannon’s music is inspired by the most High God to reach the lost where they stand and plant seeds of hope.

IAA: What is your music background?
MARK CANNON: I have been interested in music every since I was born. I started off playing percussion at a young age and even started my own African dance group. Later I played trumpet and then went back to drums. I was in the orchestra in elementary school and junior high school and so I found a love for classical music that I still enjoy today . I also sang in many choirs and different groups and quartets both in school and also in church. I learned to harmonize at a young age and could sing and hold my notes in whatever key needed to complete the sound. Music was a part of my life always.  Music and lyrics just pop up in my head and I hear the complete song. Usually when I write a song it is completed in that thought  so music and me are a match made in heaven

IAA: Why do you want to record and release your own music?
MARK CANNON: Because I have a message that needs to be heard. I know that there are people who need a word of encouragement and hope we all have been there at that place where we need to just hear something good or positive. I know that there are some folk who could have used a good word and it would have change their mind set and they would not be in the situation they find themselves in. I want my music to have that type of impact on people and their life choices. I am 49 years old and I have experienced some things that need to be shared because we don’t always act as we should. Life is best served aged and I see so much young death and unconcern for long life until it chills me . When I look back and remember that I too once shared that same unconcern and that’s when I get very humble and very thankful.

IAA: Who is your fan base directed towards?
MARK CANNON: Anyone who stands in need of hope, direction, longevity, and a positive outlook on life. I am from South Philly and when I say that I mean that it is where my roots are. When I lived in that environment I was a adaptive product of it and I did whatsoever it took to not only survive but to have my respect and swagger amazing.  I was living for the day no time for the future it was all about right now. I would like to speak to people and let them know about tomorrow and next year and down the road so my fan base will be all of those who stand in need of a chance. I come from a large family. 11 of us grew up dirt poor and was surrounded by negative people who often told me that I would be a bum or in jail could never amount to much.  It was all a falsehood.  I look at myself and I am thankful that I was strong enough and blessed enough to go and see more then my block ,but all of those people who were said to be less then could never ever amount to much are me and my fan base

IAA: Who are your musical influences?
MARK CANNON: I love music any and all so I am very diverse.Gospel James Cleveland, the Caravans,  I grew up in the Funk area so I like them all. George Clinton, Earth Wind and Fire, Michael Jackson, Frankie Beverly, The Whispers, The Ojays. I love all song writers and I spend a lot of time listening to lyrics and how they flow together. Carol King, Gamble and Huff,, my boy Charlie Simmons, Bunny, Smokie and my secret shame is easy listening soft rock .I can listen for hours, and I also like country music and rock but I also write all of the above

IAA: How would you describe your music to people ?
MARK CANNON: Inspired by a rough life of the streets of Philadelphia and a desire for a positive message, Mark E Cannon Sr. Unites influences of Gospel, soul and funk of the 60s and 70s with today’s Hip Hop to create his latest release “Position of Praise”

IAA: What makes you stand out from other artist ?
MARK CANNON: The Anointing, that’s the difference, it’s from God. He gives me the words, the music, and the drive to do what I do.  I am mature and grounded. I know who I am and I know that I have a responsibility to give back to someone who stands at the brink. I write music that’s positive and up lifting. I want to empower and build people up with esteem and worth and remind them that they are just as good as everyone else.  I have a heart for people and I would like to see folks get better. There is a lot of hurt in the world and my mission is to help find the cures

IAA: What are some upcoming projects, you are currently working on
MARK CANNON: My new CD is called “Position of Praise” and another one that is called “Love Songs.”

IAA: What are your music career goals?
MARK CANNON: I plan on being one of the best song writers in the world. My goal is to win Grammys in gospel, r&b, pop, country, and rock all in the same year and at the same show. I want to become a major force for positive messages in music and return the love music that has been missing for some time now. I also want to start my own label and produce new artists.
