IAA SPOTLIGHT: Get To Know KING GREGREE-New York’s Uprising Star!

IAA: What is your musical background?

KING GREGREE: I’ve been a professional drummer for 18 years.  I was taught drums by Richie Morales (Drummer for Spyro Gyra, Brecker Brothers, Stevie Wonder,Carly Simon, Dave Brubeck, Gato Barbieri….etc) at SUNY Purchase.   He was a wonderful teacher who didn’t accept mediocrity, which spawned my work ethic for becoming the best at whatever I was working on.  I have him(and other teachers such as Michael Antol and Jeff Costello) to thank for the development of my incredible sense of rhythm and phrasing which I now apply to my rap verses. I also play guitar, bass, keyboard and all types of percussion.

IAA: Why do you want to record and release your own music?

KING GREGREE:  I’m here to destroy a parasite that has been feeding on all humankind for centuries.  A handful of you may know who/what I’m speaking of.  My raps are encoded with a vaccine of sorts which makes this parasite weak. I’m here to illuminate the masses with the truth and put the power back into  humanity’s hands.  This parasite knows who I am and have been expecting me.  I’ve recently faced off with them in the insane realms of DMT and flexed this new power.  The parasite is now very…very nervous.

IAA: What are your songs about? (themes)

KING GREGREE: My songs are about this parasite getting a well deserved a** kicking. What went around is about to come around for these bulliesand the True Powers are going to have fun dishing out a hefty dose of their own medicine to them (that’s why my rap verses are so hilarious).  All my rap disses such as “I f*cked your girl…I’m the best and you’re the worst…etc”  are not directed at any rapper.  They are directed at theparasite who can feel the superior power of this encoded magic.  It’s terrified that it might lose everything it “worked so hard” to steal from us but at the same time “enchanted” by my raps.  It knows it should try to stop me, but it’s so intrigued by the fact that I’m actually here that it is almost paralyzed with wonder and awe. Anyone who loves amazing and mind blowing rap because this is Divinity Embodied will probably enjoy “my” raps very much.  I say “my” because I am simply the transcriber who gets the privilege to performs these heaven/hell sent verses.

IAA: Who are your musical influences?

KING GREGREE:  Wow, there are many.  As a drummer I love Elvin Jones, Tony Williams, Jack DeJonette, Levon Helm, Ringo, Joe Morello, Philly Joe Jones, Papa Jo Jones,Louie Bellson, Jabo Starks, Clyde Stubblefeild and so many more. Some of my favorite musicians/bands are Robert Johnson, Daniel Johnston, Billie Holiday, The Grateful Dead, Phish, The Clash, The Beatles,  Led Zeppelin,Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Faith No More, Primus, B.BKing, The Band, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon…the list goes on and on.

As for Hip Hop, some of my faves are: 50 cent, Eminem, Jay-z, Kanye, Cam’ron,  Tupac, B.I.G., Beastie Boys, Snoop, Dre, Weezy, Drake, Minaj,Wu-Tang, Rozay,  Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa and many others.

IAA: How would you describe your music to people

KING GREGREE:  When you hear it, you’ll probably be like:…OMG….WTF…STFU…FML!!!

IAA: What makes you stand out from other artists?

KING GREGREE: I think it’s obvious.

IAA: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?

KING GREGREE:  Well, right now I’m finishing up my first official album called “CORNUCOPIA 116” due out late September 2011.  There are about 6 sneak peek tracks on my website.  The album will have about 12 or 13 tracks all together.  One ofthe tracks on “CORNUCOPIA 116” features an amazing MC from Nairobi, Kenya named Diamonah.  The track is called “Burn It Down” and that’s exactly what we did, definitely one of my favorite cuts on the record. Also, on my youtube page people can check out a bunch roughly recorded but definitely incredible warm up raps all recorded on or after Easter Sunday 2011. I’m also performing in The “Training Camp” competition at The Pyramid Club in NYC hosted by Mental Supreme on Tuesday September 27th 2011. The address is : 101 Avenue A # 1 New York, NY 10009.

IAA: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in ten years?

KING GREGREE: Ironically, the parasite will skyrocket me to unparalleled fame because they are the very ones working behind the scenes in the entertainment industry.   It is not my place to reveal how this plays out (though I have indeed seen visions of it)……so what will we be doing in 10 years?……you’ll have to wait and see.
