ARAY: I am from Austin, Tx. I always tell people I wasn’t born in Austin, I just moved down here as fast as I could!! It’s an extremely amazing city, with a great and original vibe to it! There is so much musical talent down here it’s crazy!!
IAA: What is your music background?
ARAY: Well I believe all artists start out as fans. When i was growing up I did band and choir classes both in school. I always wanted to be around music. Then at the age of 14 (1998) I started writing my own music under the rap name Powder. I recorded my first 4 song demo Just The Beginning at the age of 17 (2001) as Powder. Well 10 years later, and a name change (Powder to ARay) and here we are! The rest is history.
IAA: What inspired you to pursue music?
ARAY: Growing up and listening to music and really feeling the passion inspired me.
I was inspired by the storytelling, watching artists express themselves, and wanting to emulate it. I fell in love with the way lyricists exposed the ugly truths of our society that sometimes we as a society tend to ignore! I fell in love with that. Music has always pulsated through me.
IAA: What are your songs about?
ARAY: My songs are about my life, relationships, hardships, fun times, everything. I write about personal experiences and experiences I see someone else going through.
IAA: Do you write your own music?
ARAY: Of course I write all of my music and I always will. I feel like writing is what makes my music MINE.
