Having a hard childhood is not an excuse for Johnnie “Kid Swagg” Neloms to become somber and ignore his talent. Johnnie Neloms was place into a foster home at 6 months of age, adopted at 5, he hardly tasted the love of his biological mother and father. Through his music and lyrics he heals himself and won’t stop until his story is heard.

IAA:  What city and state are you from?

KID SWAGG:  I’m originally from a small town in South Florida called Pahokee, in which I later moved to Gainesville, Florida, now I reside in Montgomery, Alabama.

IAA:  What is your music background?

KID SWAGG:  I began singing at the age of six, rapping at the age of eight, and later moved on to songwriting, producing, and engineering.  I later became a member of Reverbnation where I became #1 on the charts as a singer and songwriter.

IAA:  What inspired you to pursue music?

KID SWAGG:  Music has always been an outlet for me, I see it as a way to express myself, tell my story and be able to reach out to someone else and somehow become a blessing to them in disguise.

IAA:  What are your songs about? (themes)

KID SWAGG:  My songs are mainly about the realities of life, my life and the struggles and joys buried deep within, because I feel like sometimes there are songs that’ll really make you take a step back and give yourself a reality check.  You know….make you want to change some things about yourself, give you strength to carry on.

IAA:  Do you write your own music?

KID SWAGG:  I always write my own lyrics, I also ghostwrite, produce instrumentals, and do most of my own audio engineering.

IAA:  Who are your musical influences?

KID SWAGG:  Some of my musical influences are Tupac, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Chris Bender, Betty Wright, Sir Charles, Twista and many others.

IAA:  How would you describe your music to people?

KID SWAGG:  I would describe my music as Urban which is a mixture of R&B, Rap, and Pop.

IAA:  What makes you stand out from other artists?

KID SWAGG:  I’m here to not be a part of the game, but to become an epidemic in the game by bringing the meaning back to music, in which I feel music is not for the artist or people in the industry, it’s for the consumer.  And that’s why I put my heart and soul into every song I create.

IAA:  What are some upcoming projects, you are currently working on?

KID SWAGG:  Finishing up my mixtape called, “Something Special”.

IAA:  What are your career goals?  Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

KID SWAGG:  In ten years, I see myself being financially stable and happy, my number one career goal is to become successful and give back to my community.

IAA:  How can your fans access your music and contact you?

KID SWAGG:  My music can be accessed:  reverbnation.com/kidswagg19524
