IAA:  What is your music background?

JaVaunte Watie:  My grandmother is a singer and my mother is a gospel rap artist so I grew up around music. I listen to all types of music from rap to country. I have a favorite song in each genre of music

IAA:  Why do you want to record and release your own music?

JaVaunte Watie:  Growing up I would freestyle. It was something I loved to do.  In school I was criticized and told I was a horrible rapper. The people who told me I wouldn’t make it, motivated me to go harder.  I know they are going to hear me on the radio one day and be like “wow” he really did it.

IAA:  What are your songs about?

JaVaunte Watie:  I like to talk about my life and how well I am doing. I working to shift my music into an even more positive direction. I am an older brother and I want to be a positive role model. I am currently a student at Iowa State, and I want to motivate people especially my siblings to go to school and do something great with their lives.

IAA:  Who is your fan base directed towards?

JaVaunte Watie:  My fan base is directed towards anyone who is willing to listen.  I make music for everyone to hear. I want the whole world to hear my music

IAA:  Who are your musical influences?

JaVaunte Watie:  Every artist influences my music. Artists help challenge me to be original and they inspire me to think outside the box. It just amazes me how people have the ability to create music.  Having the ability to rap, sing, do whatever on a track is so creative, and I love it.

IAA:  How would you describe your music to people?

JaVaunte Watie:  My music is something to vibe to when you’re feeling yourself and you’re just in a “live” mood.  My music is something to party and bob your head too.

IAA:  What makes you stand out from other artists?

JaVaunte Watie:  My style and punch lines help me stand out. I’ve also been blessed to be in two movies. One being High School Musical 3, and I was also on the cover of a video game Zoo Hospital for the Wii. While in high school, I won two state championships at Trinity High School in Euless, Texas, which was formally ranked #1 in the nation. I’m very diverse and talented.

IAA:  What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?

JaVaunte Watie:  Right now I am working on my 2nd mixtape “Walk On 2” that I will release mid April. It has 17 new tracks on it that I believe are my best yet. Last year I officially started my own clothing like “Syndicate of Eminence” S.O.E for short. The meaning of Syndicate is “a group or organization” and the meaning of Eminence is “fame or high rank” I came up with the name to represent the people in my life. It represents people who inspire and motivate me, such as, my friends and family. The line is currently having great success at my school Iowa State.

IAA:  What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

JaVaunte Watie:  My goal is simply to be successful in life. The Lord blesses me to wake up each day and I just try and take advantage of each one. I always envisioned myself being successful. In 10 years I see myself as a big entrepreneur with my line S.O.E and hopefully have some great music my fans can jam to.
