IAA SPOTLIGHT: GET TO KNOW – DON T. – LOUISIANA’S HOTTEST STAR!

IAA:  What city and state are you from?

Don T.:  I am from Alexandria, Louisiana or as we call it A-Town, LA.

IAA:  What is your music background?

Don T.:  Well, while in high school, my cousin Dapra Dan and I formed a group called Alumni. We made the song “Get Yo Hat, Yo Coat, and Leave” for Peabody High School when they won the basketball State Championship back in 2004. That brought radio interviews from 88.1FM and 92.3FM. Since then I’ve worked with several independent artists over these past ten years and dropped numerous mix-tapes. Back then I just wanted people to hear me and my stories of life experiences but now it’s different. Now I want some “spotlight!”

IAA:  Why do you want to record and release your own music?

Don T.:  Mostly because I have studied others in this industry and realized nobody has an artist’s best interests at mind besides that particular artist.  I figure less money spent, more money made… so why not keep as much as possible in-house? It just makes sense!

IAA:  What are your songs about?

Don T.:  My songs are about Don T. and my observation of MY WORLD around ME… I don’t want to say what the next guy says, and do what he did. Although some general topics may be the same or similar, label me separate from the rest — Versatile and something original. I am what this “game” needs—REAL.

IAA:  Who is your fan base directed towards?

Don T.:  I can say that usually I tend to grasp the 18-36 year olds the easiest. I do have many fans 17 and under but would you believe my oldest fan to date is 74 years of age!

IAA:  Who are your musical influences?

Don T.:  2Pac, Mr. Mike, Biggie, Hi-Five, Janet and Michael Jackson, Barry White, Naughty by Nature, Bone Thugz (esp. Bizzy B.), and I could go on all day! I like lyrics more so than just an artist or song. I just love good music!

IAA:  How would you describe your music to people?

Don T.:  Have you ever wished someone made a song about something you feel very strongly about… well I’m that guy! This is the music you’ve been wanting to hear, the music with actual substance.

IAA:  What makes you stand out from other artists?

Don T.:  I’m definitely myself on the track, like I feel a new sense of freedom.  I am a disabled army veteran.  I own two entertainment companies that I am currently building into lucrative businesses. I am humble although I have ridiculous talent. Most of all I am not afraid to be Don Thomas when the spotlight is off Don T.

IAA:  What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?

Don T.:  Well, Canola Boyz mix-tape from my label Fresh Outda Grease LLC will be dropping July 1st.  Singles like “TAX FREE” and “RANDY SAVAGE” will be on that project. I have a single through Wise Guise Entertainment (my other company) featuring Philly Mike & Perfecto called “Money Ova Everythang” coming soon. I have my solo album coming out this fall or winter.

IAA:  What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Don T.:  My overall career goal is to change the game! I want to bring independent music to the mainstream platform. Challenge these major labels with their infinite funds and 360 deals, and actually educate musicians on the business of entertainment.  I’m talking about in the next ten years you will be saying “He did say he was gone change the game…” know what I mean?

IAA:  How can your fans access your music and contact you?

Don T.:  As far as contact from fans…. My social networks will do just fine.
