IAA:  What city and state are you from?

DA DECYPHER:  I was born in Greenville, Mississippi but I have lived in Texas most of my life and I currently live in McKinney, Texas.

IAA:  What is your music background?

DA DECYPHER:  I started out as just a freestyler who spoke on random topics such as school life, friends, or any topic somebody gave me. Eventually, I got into rapping for Christ around tenth grade. It was a hard transition to learn how to write a song because I had just been free styling for most of the time.

IAA:  Why do you want to record and release your own music?

DA DECYPHER:  I want to give the world the truth that they have been missing. The only way I can do that without restriction is through my own production and exercising my 1st amendment to freedom of speech.

IAA:  What are your songs about?

DA DECYPHER:  My songs are about corruption of the government, everyday life, daily storms and struggles, economic conditions, and Christianity and its corrupted view and representation in society. All the music is not sugarcoated because nowadays that’s all you hear in Christian hip hop.

IAA:  Who is your fan base directed towards?

DA DECYPHER:  To all the people who want to hear the truth in raw form. Nobody wants to talk about the dark sides of Christianity and just the world as a whole. Many fear the criticism they may receive however, it only motivates me and provides me with more topics to touch on.

IAA:  Who are your musical influences?

DA DECYPHER:  Many would expect me to mention some well known Christian Hip Hop artists however; they are not in my list. Artists that have influenced me are as follows: Ludacris, 50 cent, T.I, and Crooked I.

IAA:  How would you describe your music to people?

DA DECYPHER:  Music that connects the dots from Christianity to a true reality of the world from a real talk no sugarcoat perspective.

IAA:  What makes you standout from other artists?

DA DECYPHER:  The fact that I have my own style unlike many artists coming out today. A lot of what I hear nowadays is mainstream mini clones. Everything from the delivery to the rhyme pattern and sometimes they use similar bars.

IAA:  What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?

DA DECYPHER:  At the moment I just released my latest EP called “Prodigal World.” I’m currently in the process of finishing my mix tape “Freestyle Weekly Vol.6” and plan to release another mix tape known as “Chosen Path” feat. beats by DJ Kinetics.

IAA:  What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

DA DECYPHER:  I want the whole world to hear my message and eventually want to do some tours. And maybe one day perform at the BET Hip Hop Awards. In the end, I just want my music to be remembered for changing the game and just being another product in the mix. 10 years from now who knows but I definitely see myself being successful.

IAA:  How can your fans access your music and contact you?

DA DECYPHER:  My music can be accessed at www.reverbnation.com/dadecypher for the latest updates. My latest mixtape can be downloaded either at www.datpiff.com or www.hotnewhiphop.com. Just type in Da DeCypher Prodigal World. I can also be contacted via email at Justin_L_Scott@yahoo.com.

  1. Nice article bro! One of my colleagues did some work with Crooked I back in the day. Please do me favor and Check Out My Article On @iaaindustrynews [http://shar.es/u5V8I ] Leave Your Feed Back!

  2. Very impressive piece. I especially agree with the idea of telling the “dark side” of Christianity. It’s such a wonderful feeling to love God, but it is a misrepresentation of him to act as though we are perfect in our love for him. Great message!!!

  3. I totally agree with how he presents his individual style to the game. It is crucial in today’s music industry to branch out as unique instead of stereotypical. As long as he stays true to himself, success will follow. Paths of Glory is a good movie he should watch..

  4. proud 2 have worked with Da DeCypher on thie project ‘ The Chosen Path ‘. a lot of hip hop fans automatically dis regard Christian Rap but once you hear. the lyrical content & flow on any of his songs you will appreciate , respect an agree this is real hip hop , if you haven’t checked out his music do yourself a favor .

  5. Article was dope, good to see people trying to change hip hop talking about the real in life instead of the same money , cars, cloths. Ready to hear these new projects, but definantly a rising star.

  6. I been listening to this guy for a min. he always ups the bar with each track he releases. You have come a long way from just doing freestyles in the park. Keep it up bro

  7. I love it! Originality always prevails. Ain’t no point in doing what’s already been done. Big ups man! I’m proud of you!!!
