mz-koolaidNatasha Lynn Aronson, better known as MzKoolaid, fell in love with rap and Hip-Hop at an early age.

While attending Full Sail University and pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Entertainment Business, she began writing, and rapping simply for the love of it. It wasn’t until others heard her rhyme and suggested she pursue it as a career, that she began to take it seriously.

Last year, she got the chance to headline her first show and also completed her first project, a mix-tape entitled “Koolaid & Collard Greens,” which was hosted by Chicago’s own, DJ Smoke.

Currently, as a “one-woman army” she has upcoming performances and shows lined up in Chicago, IL and the midwest. She is working on finishing up her second mix-tape, due out early 2013.

IAA:  What city and state are you from?

MzKOOLAID:  I’m from Chicago, IL.

IAA:  What is your music background?

MzKOOLAID:  I’ve always been into writing ever since I was little and in Grammar school. I’ve always loved writing short stories, and poems, and incorporated that into writing raps. I’ve always done it because I was inspired by writing, and loved the art of it. It wasn’t until I attended college at Full Sail University to pursue my Bachelor’s in Entertainment Business that I began to turn my raps and poems into songs, and actually started to record them. When I would let people hear my work, they were shocked and would say “Yo, you wrote this?”, and I would say “Yeah.” They told me that I had a real talent and that I should pursue it. That’s when I decided to go ahead, and seriously pursue my artistry.

IAA:  Why do you want to record and release your own music?

MzKOOLAID:  I want to record and release my own music first and foremost because of the love I have for it. I love writing and recording my songs and sharing it with the world especially when people like something you created; it’s a good feeling. I feel like if you have a particular talent you should make it seen, and not keep it under wraps. You’re only doing yourself an injustice. God gives you a talent for a reason, which I believe is to make it known, share it, and use it to the best of your ability, and that’s what I try to do.

IAA:  What are your songs about?

MzKOOLAID:  All of my songs vary. They all have different concepts. Some are personal, about my personal experiences, and some are about love/heartbreak, my hometown, (Chicago) and how I grew up, and others are about ambition, wanting to be rich, and making something out of nothing.

IAA:  Who is your fan base directed towards?

MzKOOLAID:  My fan base is directed towards my generation-the younger generation. I would say the 18-35 demographic.

IAA:  Who are your musical influences?

MzKOOLAID:  Oh man! There’s so many, but I would say Tupac, Lauryn Hill, Nas, Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Drake, J. Cole, Wale, and Kendrick Lamar to name a few.

IAA:  How would you describe your music to people?

MzKOOLAID:  I would describe my music as real, witty, lyrical, metaphorical, raw, and  uncensored.

IAA:  What makes you stand out from other artists?

MzKOOLAID:  What makes me stand out from other artists is my voice, because that’s the first thing you hear when you listen to my music, and when you see me, and you hear me, you’re kind of surprised, because you wouldn’t think that I would sound the way I do. I’m a grown a** woman, but I sound much younger. Lol.  I would also say my versatility, and style makes me stand out, because I don’t have ONE set style. I have many styles, so you can’t pigeon hole me into one category.

IAA:  What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?

MzKOOLAID:  I’m currently finishing up my second mix-tape, which is the follow up to my 1st mixtape, “Koolaid and Collard Greens.” I’m also working on my EP, and working on a few collabs.

IAA:  What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

MzKOOLAID:  My career goals are to expand my fan base, venture outside of Chicago and into other cities, do a promo tour, do some collabs with well established artists, and most importantly get signed to a major label. In 10 years, I see myself very successful as an artist, a part of a dynamic record label with accolades, as well as recognition for my music.

IAA:  How can your fans access your music and contact you?

MzKOOLAID:  My fans can access my music and contact me as follows:
