hoopzChristian Shantell Knox, better known by her stage name Hoopz, was born in Tuscaloosa, AL. At an early age, around 6 or 7, with her love of music already very apparent, she began performing for her family whenever and wherever. By the time she was 10 years old, she had begun to write her own songs. With music and singing already quite natural to her, Hoopz diversified her skill set at the age of 13 and included rapping into the mix. In a self-built studio created by her cousin, she first got her start with free-styling and recording. These early sessions led to collaborations with various local independent musicians, which fostered key relationships with producers, engineers and session musicians. After  purchasing recording software of her own along with the necessary equipment that would facilitate home recordings, she spent hours upon hours perfecting her craft and developing the act that has gotten her mass appeal in her home town of Tuscaloosa.  It was during the time she was in the 9th grade that Big Boy Entertainment provided opportunities for her to do live performances, which led to the creation of “Kodak,” her first mix-tape, a radio station interview and ensuing music videos. Now, at just 22, Hoopz has the experience, attitude, talent and team necessary for her debut onto the music’s main stage.

IAA:  What city and state are you from?

HOOPZ:  I’m from Tuscaloosa, AL.

IAA:  What is your music background?

HOOPZ:  I love a lot of different types of music but especially Rock, Country, and Rap music.

IAA:  What inspired you to pursue music?

HOOPZ:  I was inspired to do music because it’s my first love. The feeling I get from listening to a great song or writing music is more than enough reason to do it again.

IAA:  What are your songs about?

HOOPZ:  My songs are about life. They range anywhere from the hardest things to say to the easiest; from the things we talk about to the things we don’t realize.

IAA:  Do you write your own music?

HOOPZ:  Yes, I write my own music.

IAA:  Who are your musical influences?

HOOPZ:  My musical influences are Lauryn Hill, TLC, The Script, J. Cole, Missy Elliott, Aaliyah, Carrie Underwood, Frank Ocean, Eve, Tupac, Brandy, Ron Pope, Keith Urban and Ryan Leslie.

IAA:  How would you describe your music to people?

HOOPZ:  I would describe my music as having the stories of a country song, the hooks of a rock song, with the intensity of a rap song.

IAA:  What makes you stand out from other artists?

HOOPZ:  I think that I stand out from other artists because I’m a female rapper with a lot to say. I admire the Eves and Lauryn Hills of hip hop who not only rapped but they taught, and when they spoke they educated us. I want to be that and MORE.

IAA:  What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?

HOOPZ:  I’m currently working on my next mix-tape. Most of the tracks will be original.

IAA:  What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

HOOPZ:  My career goals are to graduate college and get a job in my field to finance my music habit, to be one of the greatest female rappers…period, and to one day open my own real estate construction company.

IAA:  How can fans access your music and contact you?

HOOPZ:  My fans can contact me via Twitter @Hoopz_32, Facebook @Christian Hoopz Knox, Reverbnation @TheHoopz, and on datpiff @Hoopz.
