MASTER E: I was born in Philadelphia, PA but I currently live in Oak Park, IL.
IAA: What is your music background?
MASTER E: My family was into music; Dad was a violin player and my sister played the piano. It wasn’t long before I joined the cast and played the flute, piano and melodica. I also sang in the fellowship choir and rapped with friends at the local bars for the fun of it. Later on, I got into battle rapping when I was in the US Army with fellow soldiers while kicking back in the barracks.
IAA: What inspired you to pursue music?
MASTER E: I always loved singing and rapping. Songs like “Every Little Step” – Bobby Brown, “Hip Hop Hooray” – Nature By Nature and “Dear Mama” – 2 Pac were always on my lips. I received a lot of support and encouragement from friends and family so I started writing songs similar to those I liked. But then, the timing wasn’t right. College work was taking up my time. But now, I am ready to follow my dream and passion to the fullest.
IAA: What are your songs about? (themes)
MASTER E: My songs are about love & life from an inspirational & philosophical standpoint. For instance, on my song “Can’t Trust You,” I rap about how you can love someone but still have some trust issues which may not even be about the one you’re with but still dealing with the one that didn’t work out.
IAA: Do you write your own music?
MASTER E: I write my own music and also come up with the concept of how the song would sound like. Then, I work with a producer to put it together.
IAA: Who are your musical influences?
MASTER E: Growing up in a musical home, I was exposed to all kinds of music such as Elvis, the Beatles, Cameo and Mozart to mention a few. However, my own musical influence came from Boyz II Men, New Edition, Usher, Rakim, LL Cool J, 2 Pac, Naughty By Nature, Sade, and Madonna.
IAA: How would you describe your music to people?
MASTER E: My music is R&B and Hip-Hop. Cool vibes you can sit back and relax with or have a nice time at the club dancing to it. Consider it New Jack Swing II.
IAA: What makes you stand out from other artists?
MASTER E: I am here to take hip-hop back to where it started (the art of storytelling), and songs that speak to the heart & soul. The kind of music that anyone can relate or listen to.
IAA: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?
MASTER E: I am currently working on an EP with the first single coming out in a few weeks.
IAA: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
MASTER E: My career goals are to make music that would impact and change people’s lives for the better, to be an International artist, win a lot of awards and then, mentor new artists.
