IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
CHASTIZE: Being raised around my parents I was very used to hearing a lot of ” old school ” music such as, The Temptations and Michael Jackson. My parents stayed very hip with the times and expanded what they listened to, which included newer music as well. My older sisters took a different approach to music varying from punk rock to heavy metal. Plus, my best friend growing up was a fan of Jack Johnson. I would have to say my music background is very diverse.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?
CHASTIZE: Music is an art form. It is an expression on one’s self. There is music out there to fit every kind of mood a person can have. I love helping people, and I love making music. I feel like I can express myself in ways that can help people get through their day. I want to possibly show them a side of something that they did not see before. Everybody has something to say, but not everybody knows how to say it. Plus it’s what I love to do.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
CHASTIZE: My songs are about stories. They are about things that have happened to me, might happen, or things that I am glad didn’t happen to me. My songs are about you and me, life, and how we all have to walk this road.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who is our fan base directed towards?
CHASTIZE: My fan base is very wide. As far as age specific, I would have to say 18 – 35. I like my music to have double meanings. That way just because you took a line or a bar one way, the person on the other side of the country might take it a different way. This leaves my fan base to be very diverse in nature. My fan base is directed to the 18-35 age group with a love for music.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
CHASTIZE: I would have to say one of my musical influences would have to be Sublime. Just the mood they put me in and the way they can connect with different people from different walks of life is amazing. Lupe Fiasco is a great influence with the way he makes me think and contemplate the things he says. There are many more but those are the two that stick out the most.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
CHASTIZE: I describe it as “real”. My music is something people can relate to or something they can feel. At the very worst it’s something they could nod there head to. So far no one can listen to my music and say it’s not me.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artist?
CHASTIZE: I would have to say the way I present myself. That’s probably the biggest thing that separates me from the crowd. The way I present my music, and the way I express myself.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?
CHASTIZE: I just finished a song. I was asked to do a feature on with another local artist representing our state. I am currently working on several new music videos, both being shot in my hometown. I just released a second mixtape, and I am now working on a third. Last, but not least, I have been booking shows in my town as well as Denver.
