IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
ADRIENNE LASHE: I have been singing since I was 10. I started out in the choir at Southwest Institutional Baptist Church in Los Angeles where my grand father was the pastor. I then went and joined the choir in junior high. Writing was therapeutic for me. I would sit in my room and write and sing for hours. My great-grandmother and my grandmother had a gospel group in the 60s called the Charlotte Singers. They also sang in the choir every Sunday. I was there listening in awe, and at that time I knew that’s what I wanted to do. Music is an outlet for me. It forces me to tap into my inner feelings, and let the world into my life even when I don’t mean too.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?
ADRIENNE LASHE: I want to record and release my own music because I want to tell a story. I want to be heard. I want to tell my life through music. I want to express my emotions. I’m a really private person. I don’t like to tell my business. I could hide behind my music, because no one knows if it’s a real life experience of just something I wrote. When I’m in the studio I become someone else. I’m able to tap into the creative side of me and allow my fans to see a part of me they have never seen. I want to be recognized in my own category as being different.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
ADRIENNE LASHE: My songs are about love, hurt, pain, happiness, and having a good time. I mean there are so many levels that my writing is on. I never limit myself. My mind thinks on so many levels that I write what I feel. I write what someone else goes through and what I go through. I can’t really pinpoint what my songs are about. I went through a bad break up 2 years ago. So at that time I wrote about the hate I had for my ex. I wrote about moving on. I just wrote until I got to a point where I was satisfied and happy. Then my writing changed, so right now I’m in a good place. I’m tapping into my sexual side more, and I’m in the mood to tell stories through my music.
Who are your musical influences?
ADRIENNE LASHE: I have always looked up to Anita Baker. She’s so powerful in her lyrics. When I listen to her voice, it’s like all my problems and stress find a new outlet. Between her and my great-grandmother, those two women gave me the power to tap into myself and find my creative side through my music.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
ADRIENNE LASHE: I would say it sounds like no other artist. It’s creative. It’s electric. It’s powerful. It will have you crying and smiling all at the same time. I would describe it as being an emotional roller coaster. I think every song I’ve written and recorded someone can relate to. It’s feel good music. I know for the ladies I give them an inch of Diva. If they are going through a bad break up, I have that music that makes you feel good about yourself.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?
ADRIENNE LASHE: What sets me apart from other artist is I understand the business. I understand that I am a business. My brand is important to me, and I try to present that. I don’t try to follow trends musically, I set them. I’m not into worrying about what the next artist is doing. I’m perfecting my craft and growing as an artist.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in your music career and how did you overcome?
ADRIENNE LASHE: I’m a naturally shy and reserved type of person. For some reason, I have built an alter ego AD Tha Diva to kind of shoo away and become this fearless person people see. The hardest thing in the beginning for me was performing. I was always so timid on stage. I would get so nervous that I would forget lyrics on stage and have to ad lib a songI was just rehearsing a few minutes before. My mentor would tell me to calm down and relax. Once your comfortable in your own skin the rest will flow. I think I felt that I had something to prove. I wanted people to accept me for the hard work I was putting in. Now I’m more comfortable on stage than ever. I just learned how to have fun and enjoy the moment. I’m an entertainer so as long as my fans are happy. I’m happy.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?
ADRIENNE LASHE: Right now I am in the process of completing my mixtape “Trust Issues” and my album “Thoughts of a Diva.” The video for the lead single on the Mixtape “Sex 101” will be shot in a couple of weeks. I’m really excited about it. The mixtape is going to be off the chain. I put a lot of work into it. It’s not sloppily done. You can vibe to it. It’s a mixture of original songs by me and remixed songs by other artist such as Ciara, Fantasia, and Drake among others. I’m ready to finish. I’m really excited.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
ADRIENNE LASHE: I have so many goals. I’m very goal oriented. A major goal of mine, and I know it may sound cliché, is to win a Grammy. I know that it requires hard work, but my work ethic is crazy. I know there’s no doubt I’ll get there. I want to perform at sold out concerts and play for over 10,000 people. I want to set trends with my music. I want to be a legend. I want to make a statement. In 10 years, I see myself, rocking with the best of the best of the business. I will be making great music, getting into everything I possibly can. I want to get into acting, clothing lines, cosmetic lines and much more. To me the sky is not the limit. I’m in it to win it. I’m going to infinity and beyond.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How can your fans access your music and contact you?
ADRIENNE LASHE: My fans can find me everywhere. I try to get on all the social networks and talk to them.
