IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  What is your music background?
JAY DOT:  I have always been interested in music. When I was a child I made beats out of anything and everything. I would create beats by playing with kitchen utensils rather than the average toddler toys. I started writing words to the beats when I was in the 5th grade. I was doing a class project where I had to define and explain Newton’s Laws and I got permission from my teacher to make a rap out of my work. That’s when I realized that music could be more than just a hobby.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  Why do you want to record and release your own music?
JAY DOT:  It’s my sense of freedom and the way that I express myself by being able to put a beat with my poetry. I feel that people can relate to some of the things that I have been through in my life and the different situations I’ve endured. I consider my music to be an open-book.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  What are your songs about?
JAY DOT:  My music is all about being able to have a good time and an elaboration of Houston’s culture. It’s also a kind of motivation to me. It’s about how to keep on going through all the different types of struggles that have been thrown my way.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  Who is your fan base directed towards?
JAY DOT:  My fan base is directed towards people who may have a hard time believing in themselves. I want to show people that if you really try and put in the hard work then you can be someone. My music is for all those who are less fortunate and financially unstable. I want to be the proof that there’s more to life than struggle. When there’s a will there’s a way. You just have to believe.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  Who are your musical influences?

JAY DOT:  B.O.B, Tupac, and Andre 3000. The reason these artists influence me is because of the power and the positive messages they have; the way they went about communicating with their fans through their music.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  How would you describe your music to people?

JAY DOT:  I would describe it as a journey; my experience through different scenarios of pain, love, excitement, and ambition.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  What makes you stand out from other artists?
JAY DOT:  My delivery and my ability to be different. The way that I approach different situations stands out from the others.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?
JAY DOT:  I’m working on a video for my single, “Drop It Low”. I have a show in October that I’m also preparing for. Other than that, I’m just focused on making more music.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself ten years from now?
JAY DOT:  My career goals are to make a positive name for myself. I want to be a respectable role-model for others. Ten years from now I see myself finding new talent among the streets around the country; people that can keep hip-hop alive. I want to accomplish something that’s outside of my imagination. I want my name to be brought up with the greats as long as hip-hop stands as a genre.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  How can your fan access your music and contact you?
JAY DOT:  I have a ReverbNation.com account. Becoming a fan of JayDot will send you emails with updates on upcoming shows, videos, and new music. I also have an app on my ReverbNation page that you can download that has all of my latest music at your convenience. I have a Facebook page also under “Jaydot” where you can become a fan and stay updated.
