Midwest emcee Gary “G-SMOOTH” Adams was born in KCMO and raised in Kansas. Being born in the early 80’s as a child of hip-hop, G-SMOOTH quickly caught on to the culture. It wasn’t until he reached his early teens that G-SMOOTH decided to pick up the pen and begin his journey as an emcee. By doing shows around his city in the mid 90’s with numerous artists, G-SMOOTH’s love for the stage strengthened. In 2002 he released his first solo project “ILL STATUS” and followed that with his next release “LYRICAL MINDSTATE” in 2004. In the same year, G-SMOOTH linked with his cousin on the West Coast Kavio and was plugged in with a couple of major artists. In 2008, with demo copies of his STREET DEMO/UPLIFT MIX-TAPE, they hit the road; networking and pushing the CD through 28 cities nationwide. In 2009 following the release of his full length “UPLIFT” mix-tape, G-SMOOTH hooked up with West Coast legend Brotha Lynch Hung, appearing on his 2010 album “Dinner And A Movie” and in one of Tech N9ne’s biggest videos, “Leave Me Alone.” The years that followed were filled with countless shows and features on projects from artists around the nation. In 2012, G-SMOOTH was voted Best Hip-Hop Artist in the Kansas City Entertainment Awards. This was followed by another feature on Brotha Lynch Hung’s album “MANNIBALECTOR.” Now with the release of his latest project “UPLIFT VOL.2,” G-SMOOTH has hit the road once again to deliver more positive music to the people. You may have caught him in select cities this year on the Strange Music Independent Powerhouse Tour and the Something Else Tour this year, pushing UPLIFT VOL. 1&2. With certain eyes in the industry focusing towards him, G-SMOOTH knows that it’s GO TIME!

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?

G SMOOTH:  I’m from Olathe, Kansas (the Kansas City Metro area).

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?

G SMOOTH:  I started out on the turntables before I started writing because I wanted to be a DJ. I’ve also played drums and the cello a little bit through school.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?

G SMOOTH:  I feel that the impression I’ve made on people musically has played a HUGE part in me continuing to create music. Music means so much to me and I know that it has played a big part in others’ lives as well. With my music I would like to be a contributor in helping people get through rough times, just like certain songs and albums got me through some of my own serious times.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?

G SMOOTH:  My songs vary with different topics but they are all positive and uplifting. Whether it’s about living right and dodging the system to stay out of trouble or feel good party music, it is music that encourages people to live life and enjoy every second yet be safe at the same time.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your music influences?

G SMOOTH:  My influences are from 80’s and 90’s hip-hop artists like: Outkast, 2Pac, Run-D.M.C., LL Cool J, E-40, Busta Rhymes, Wu-Tang Clan, Tech N9NE, and many other artists in hip-hop, as well as other genres of music.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?

G SMOOTH:  I would describe it as GREAT, positive hip-hop music…something you can listen to around kids and older generations. It is feel good music for EVERYBODY.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?

G SMOOTH:  My live performance is one to compete with, no matter who you are. I try to give the fans and people what they paid for and what they came to see, which is a good show. This plus the content of my music is usually different from the other performers I share stages with.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in your music career and how did you overcome?

G SMOOTH:  With me being from Kansas City there is not much of a musical outlet here like many other places. Being from the middle and having to work my way from coast to coast while fresh out of high school was hard. All of this while having a child who was born right after I graduated and being away from my child at times all to pursue my career was challenging. This has been overcome now that she is older and understands as more opportunities come my way. I feel that it was worth the challenge both as a man and an artist.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?

G SMOOTH:  I just finished releasing “UPLIFT vol. 2” (AVAILABLE NOW!!!). My next project (still untitled) is being worked on as well as the Hog Potnaz Music Group. I am also working on DANETWORC.COM http://danetworc.com/ compilations and numerous features lined up for other artist’s projects.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

G SMOOTH:  My career goal is to be included in the list of artists who made an impact on this world through music. As a solo artist I’d like to have longevity in this music so that ten years from now, what I’ve set out to do in my career as an artist has been achieved and then some, in every form of entertainment possible.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How can your fans access your music and contact you?

G SMOOTH:  Fans across the globe can access my music on:

  2. Way to go G-Smooth!!!!! Best of luck to you and Blessings to you as God continues to lift you up as you lift others up through your music!!!!!

  3. They love G-Smooth here in Denver. I have many young clients that have seen him, Tech and Kaliko and come to me, knowing I am from KC, to see what I can do to get them a picture or to meet them. Much respect to my nephew/lil bro G-Smooth. He has spent much time, effort and has made many sacrifices in his life to be in the “GAME” and you can see the fruits of his labor. He has never disappointed nor will he, he has way too much pride and respect for the “GAME” for that.

    UPLIFT “IS” THE MOVMENT!!!!

  4. Yo, Smooth is on his shit for real. If you are ignorant to the way KC breeds bad ass MC’s or what caliber of artists come from KC just google it. G Smooth is a helluva live performer who leaves it all on the stage and never disappoints. I strongly suggest you check his tunes out whenever you get the opportunity. Big ups to G Smooth reppin’ the 913

  5. Glad to see G Smooth get this well-deserved recognition & shout out!! Not only can he smash verses, but he’s a wonderful person, parent, & human being for that matter. One of the best people I know. G is a refreshing example of how Rap & Hip-Hop can be more than just name-brand dropping & dis-tracks. He actually puts thought into his lyrics & well, they speak from themselves. Uplift is the movement my man!!! Congrats on a fantastic new album & many more to come…

  6. G smooth is a one of a kind artist! His ability to continue to bring a positive message is always refreshing. His continuous grind has definitely paid off and should continue. Big up smooth!

  9. Gsmooth…..proof that hard work and dedication turn dreams to a reality..You and your music are an inspiration to everyone….keep it going and”stay uplifted”….

  10. Been down with G Smooth since day one!! His music is nothing less than uplifting, inspiring and reflects his real life. He is a lyrical genius and speaks from his heart and soul. He works hard to achieve his dreams without taking short cuts. You are truly blessed my friend. Congrats

  11. What’s up Smooth. You already know I’m diggin that Volume 2. For anyone new to Smooth’s music he’s truly legit. He’s been grinding for years and getting better with everyone that passes. In my opinion he’s gotta be the hardest working emcee to come out of Olathe and the surrounding areas. When it’s time to hit the studio he always comes prepared ready to knock out the task at hand. Us engineers, songwriters, and other artist will always respect that. Keep grinding my man and always take it to the top.

  12. Ive known G for a long time now and all hes ever wanted to do is to leave his imprint on the music industry. It as been a long journey but you wouldnt know it by talking to him. His motivation never wavered and now its paying off. Always good to hear somebody you know is doing great things for themselves. Congratulations bro

  13. Gsmooth has got what it takes! Got his new CD and absolutely love it! Not only is he talented, but he’s one of the coolest and nicest people I’ve ever met. Kuddos to you man. You’re going far and I’m a proud fan.

  14. Steve Harvey said [Today] ” just because your are passionate about something, doesn’t mean your gifted at it” G has been blessed with the GIFT of talent for sure. His lyrics are deep metaphorical arrangements that can almost be the anthem to many of us urban folk who find ourselves drowning in suburbia. Believe me, the rest of the world has only heard such a small portion of what G came to say. Backed with the kind of beats that make you bounce; {at least a little somethin !} It is fair to say, nobody on the streets works harder or persists to have face time with fans and industry. His family grounds him, but his pure PASSION for hip hop, the life, and the music sustains him!! LISTEN UP THERE’S MORE TO HEAR. UPLIFT IS THE MOVEMENT!
    《Always looking out °° angel¡¡yz》

  15. G-Smooth is absolutely correct when he states he has music for everybody. His music is uplifting (therefore the movement) and full of issues i can relate to. Personally i don’t listen to a lot of underground artist because majority of them rap about the same thing. Dope game, women, cars or how much they got. Neither of which interest me in this stage of my life. Check out G-Smooth on the real.

  16. I have known Gary since we were in elementary school. He is a very talented man. So proud to see that he has taken his career to where it is today. Best wishes, as you continue to on your journey.

  17. one of the coolest cats to work with in the studio, or just chill with. down to earth with a laid back vibe and always positive. if you haven’t heard him yet you will soon. UPLIFT IS THE MOVEMENT!

  18. G-Smooth’s music is just good, refreshing hip-hop. His style is laid back as his moniker suggests, and his words are always musical. He is a musician first and a rapper second. He does it purely for the love of the sport which is the way it should be done. Worth checking out.

  19. I’ve known Gary for about 10 years and have always known he would do big things! He is a great person and artist!

So proud of you Gary for how far you have come. Keep doing great things! I will always be a fan! 🙂
