IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  What city and state are you from?

LAID ENT:  LAID ENT is an entertainment group that consists of four multi-talented artists including Phillip Ajayi (aka PJ), Rahzil Blackwell (aka Rahzil), Langston Williams (aka Breezy B), and Desmond Bonds (aka Lil’ Dez). Although each artist originates from different walks of life, destiny brought this group together. Establishing themselves in the southern part of Arlington, Texas, the group created quite a local buzz from their early hits such as “Louder” and “Hear the Rain.” The young music group has come quite a long way from producing their “High School hits” until now.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  What is your music background?

LAID ENT:  Music has greatly attributed to the lives of each member starting from a very ripe and tender age. PJ and Rahzil grew up playing piano and singing in the church, which reflects in the soulful R&B music the singing duo puts out. Although the singers’ voices differ in tone, this common upbringing allows these two to collaborate on songs in a smooth and indistinguishable way. On the other side, through the gift of dance and rhythm, Lil’ Dez and Breezy B have been competing in dance competitions and shows from the time the born performers began to walk. Not too long after, the two soon-to-be rappers picked up the mic and began putting lyrics together with their uncanny styles of rhythm and poetry. After the team came together, avenues began to open up for the group to participate in various performances, live concerts, show openings, dance competitions ,rap battles, talent shows, club performances, etc.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  Why do you want to record and release your own music?

LAID ENT:  LAID ENT wants to continue to record and release their own music on a world wide scale to promote positivity to the masses. Their goal is to inspire the upcoming generation to become leaders in our society and demonstrate that with determination they can become anything they put their minds to. LAID ENT also promotes music that any and everyone can relate to, from the youth all the way up to the elderly.  The group often states they would like to put out music “even their own mothers could listen to” unlike most of the commercial music that’s out right now.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:   What are your songs about?

LAID ENT:  Rather than the artificial music many artists put out today which lack substance, majority of LAID’s songs are about the things we deal with in our everyday life like love and pain, joy and hurt, the ups and downs, the struggle and stresses, as well as successes.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  Who are your musical influences?

LAID ENT:  LAID ENT’s music is influenced by many veteran artists who have paved the way for our younger generation of hip hop, so they consider it a duty to pay homage through their music.  LAID wants to bring back “real” music, something we lack today due to companies whose main concern is to make profit rather than release substantial music. These influences include Tupac Shakur, Biggie Smalls, Eminem, Music Soulchild, as well as newer artists like Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and J Cole.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  How would you describe your music to people?

LAID ENT:  LAID ENT considers genre as a barrier to certain demographics. They do not want to limit their music to a certain crowd which is why you’ll hear such diversity throughout their mixtapes and EP’s.  The team is more concerned about the underlying message in their music rather than the type of song it is.  They believe through poetry and melody they can convey any type of message they want on any track whether it’s through R&B, hip hop, or even Indie instrumentals. Either way, they are willing to make ear-pleasing music to reach out to any and every music listener in the world. They plan to venture off into more genres as the group’s musical talents continue to expand.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  What makes you stand out from other artists?

LAID ENT:  The music group stands out from other artists because not only can they make good music, but they are born entertainers. Aside from the advanced lyrical content and extremely contagious melodies, the crew can dance, perform, sing, & play live instruments all exceptionally well. Each artist is a leader and they all take initiative to better themselves in all areas of their talents. This allows them to rapidly improve since each of them is continuously challenged by one another.  Their appeal also helps them substantially in reaching out to the female demographic.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in your music career and how did you overcome?

LAID ENT:  One of the hardest challenges the group has had to face in their music career was patience.  Even though the group knew they should have been on a much higher platform by now, they had to become humble and diligent, and realize that hard work and patience would truly yield the reward of achieving their dreams and goals.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?

LAID ENT:  LAID ENT is currently working on their third mixtape “#The3Mix” scheduled to release by November and releasing their second EP shortly thereafter. The squad is currently working on more music videos and visuals which are essential to building their fan base. They are also putting together venues at which they will perform to larger scale audiences.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:  What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

LAID ENT:  Our main goal, in the next ten years is to establish ourselves as a worldwide entertainment group to entertain the masses. We also are striving to create our own independent label in order to bring more undiscovered talent to the music scene. Most importantly, our main priority is not only to provide music but to give back the community that raised us. We want to inspire the same community bringing up our next generation to aim for the things in life they want to achieve rather than settling for less than the best just because they think it’s too hard.
