DeMarlo “BlackSkinny” Hatchett was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago. He is a performing artist committed to the Hip-Hop culture. From an early age, he enjoyed performing impressions of his favorite artists such as; NWA, Public Enemy, Tupac, Rakim, Biggie, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg amongst others. He and friends would often get together and act out scenes from their favorite music videos. By the age of 16, he had developed his own style, a uniquely crafted blend of words and beats to tell of what he witnessed growing up in the “Hood,” and what he had to overcome. He was deeply influenced by the traditional elements of Hip-Hop music, and the genres cultural integrity served as a source of inspiration fueling his determination to create a career in the rough and tumble music industry. After being a victim of multiple gunshot wounds and surviving a brief incarceration at Vienna Correctional Center in Illinois, he was determined upon release to turn his life around. Through the power of prayer, and the positive influence of Hip-Hop music, he started a clothing line called Kush Kid Collectiblez. IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
BlackSkinny: Well I grew up on the Eastside of Chicago and hip-hop was always apart of my life. I listened to everything from Sugar Hill Gang to NWA to Pac. Growing up, I would listen to music with my mother. I was creating my own world when listening to music and now I want to let the industry into BlackSkinny world.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?
BlackSkinny: I want to introduced my alter ego “Blackskinny” to the music industry. Blackskinny is my creative side and how he relates to my actual self. I traveled, selling books and magazines throught 50 states for six years. Blackskinny is the summation of those years. It’s like when Snoop went from being Snoop Dog to Snoop Lion
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
BlackSkinny: I try to speak on my day to day life obstacles. I speak about living on the eastside but from a hip-hop and creative stand point. A lot goes on there so there’s a lot of pain in my music but I always maintain positivity as well.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who is your fan base directed towards?
BlackSkinny: I don’t support violence or anything like that. So my music is geared towards music fans that just like rocking with good bars, creative formats and a professional sound. That could be anything from telling a smoking story to a story about my life. It’s Blackskinny. He talks about me.

BlackSkinny: I was influenced by a lot of different artist because they all had they own creative vision. Hands down Pac, Jay and Yezzy has been my biggest influence. I am really influenced by Yeezy, especially with him being from Chicago…
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
BlackSkinny: I am introducing the Black Skinny character as an MC and that’s how I describe my music. I’m a MC.

BlackSkinny: My other talents. The fact that I design my own clothing line and I’m a graphic designer gives me the creative edge to stand out from other artist. I offer other business adventures.

BlackSkinny: In ten years I want the industry to know and be rocking with BlackSkinny and the Kush Kid Collectiblez movement. I’m planning a couple short films that I am doing a soundtrack for. I am also planning a musical fashion show in London. Winning A Grammy would be living out my dreams.
