IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?

KASHMIR BROWN: I’m born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?

KASHMIR BROWN: I’ll say my music background is professional. The deeper I get into my music the more I strive for perfection. As a music artist, you want the people to hear the music, but you want them to hear the best product that you have overall.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?

KASHMIR BROWN: Honestly, I want to change the world and the people around me. I also do it because it’s my passion. I’m not doing this for a quick check. I’m doing this for an opportunity to make a difference in the world. I see how much power music has on people. I want to use this power to influence a new culture, where love is the only trait.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?

KASHMIR BROWN: My songs are about stories, events, and feelings that I have experienced in my lifetime. Sometimes those stories aren’t my stories, but the stories of people in my life. My songs are about messages that needs to be told to my people, and when I say my people I mean black, white, yellow, and brown. My songs are about speaking to the listener as if it’s a one on one conversation telling them I understand what you’re going through. Also, I want people to know that you’re not the only one going through it.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who is your fan base directed towards?

KASHMIR BROWN: My fan base is towards anyone because I try to make music for everyone. It might not be the right age category but I try to make music for everyone to enjoy. My music is mostly directed to the people who can relate to the stories or feelings regarding situations in life that actually involves all of us.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?

KASHMIR BROWN: Well first Jay Z is one of my influences because of the way he evolves with his music. Most rappers can’t do that because they’re too stagnant and they’re afraid of change. Second, is Kendrick Lamar because I feel as though he brought back the competition in hip-hop/rap. He creates beautiful, intelligent music that people can relate to as a person going through something. Third, would have to be Logic. He’s a rapper that came from nothing and made it into something on his own completely with his crew. I remember the time he dropped his first mixtape “Young,Broke, and Infamous,” and I started saying to myself this guy is amazing. Then he drops 2 more mixtapes and he still amazes me with what he’s doing in rap. I left for the Army, and I came back and found out he dropped his fourth mixtape and his got sign to Def Jam. It took this guy 4 mixtapes on Datpiff and a 3 to 4 year period to get signed by Def Jam. So I finally saw at that point that this guy is truly influencing me and motivating me to do better. I know I can do the same as well. So to sum that up I am influenced by change, competition, and hustle. If those three things were people those would be my true influences.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?

KASHMIR BROWN: I’ll describe my music as a message telling audio story, non-stop party that never ends. As a music artist, I create art that you will be hearing for awhile. We as people we know what the message is, we just need to know how to put it in place. Also, I want to tell stories so I can relate to each and every single person I’m rapping to. Thus, in the end, I want to make sure the people are having a good time listening to my music.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?

KASHMIR BROWN: The reason why I stick out like a sore thumb is because of my originality. In the beginning of time, God made us original he didn’t make us a copy of someone else. Everyone is looking in the mirror and seeing a music artist that’s not them. They’re seeing someone who has made it already and he or she is already successful. I stand out because I can look in the mirror and find my own soul and I see my own self. I don’t see a copy of another rapper because that’s not me. Finally, the reason why I stand out is because I don’t lie in my raps. I’m not going to say some stuff I do not have or I do not do. You’re not going to hear me talk about how I got a whole bunch money when I hustle just as hard as the next person for the money.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals?

KASHMIR BROWN: Where do you see yourself in 10 years? My main career goal is to accomplish my dream and be a music artist because that’s my passion. As we all know things don’t go as planned sometimes so I’ll go back to school and work on being an engineer. But I’m never going to give up on my dream. Where do I see myself in 10 years? I want to be a music artist that’s still entertaining the people with my talent. Then I want to live life with my wife and start a family and see the world. But honestly in 10 years, I know that would be really lucky for me because as right now I’m praying for 21. I know that any day death can be right around the corner. My Uncle that passed away speaks to me in my dreams and tells me that I got a long time to go before I get called home. So I’m going to enjoy doing what I like to do and that’s music.
