Hard working, passionate, and talented sums up all of the characteristic that Jay $ilver possess. Currently pursuing a  Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience, Jay $ilver is the perfect combination of intelligence and creativity mixed into one. Possessing a smooth flavor-filled flow, Jay $ilver is gearing up to have major impact on the music industry.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?

JAY $ILVER: I hail from the land of Jamaica/Queens Village within the borough Queens in New York City in New York State. I was born and raised there and moved around a little. I lived everywhere from hillside manor apartments to basements by a “Nemo Tire Supply” off 207th Street and eventually above a liquor store off “the ave” or Jamaica Ave at the intersection of Hempstead and 212 place. Then after the first 13 years of my life my mother and I moved to Dallas, Texas in November of 2006. We were specifically in Irving, Texas which is where I spent my 8th grade year of middle school. Then like in New York we moved around a few more times as I spent my high school years in Euless, Texas where somehow my musical talents vastly grew during these years, and still have room to mature.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?

JAY $ILVER: My musical background is very eclectic. It ranges from a variety of genres like 80’s Jazz to 90’s hip-hop & R&B, todays Rap, electronica & on & on since I have such a genuine love of music. But if we were to narrow it down to my beginning stages and how I began it’d be the “old school” hip-hop from the 80’s & 90’s mixed.  Artists such as KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, Nas, 2pac & on, mixed with the timeless R&B singers like Luther Vandross, Sweet Micky, Lionel Richie etc. These musical preferences were passed down from from my older siblings and mother.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?

JAY $ILVER: I want to record and release my own music because I feel like the current transition of the music industry is becoming more about finding a good underground artist and making him/her a hip-pop icon or they’ll die trying to be original. I want to show the world that yes there is a way to produce good music that’s “jammy” aka you can vibe to it, that’s relatable, comical, with clever lines that is most importantly real content-wise while I just have fun on the mic. It’s kind of how Ludacris once put it, “I do it for hip-hop!”

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?

JAY $ILVER: My songs vary in topic. They can be about the struggles of a college student in America then the next track is about popping bottles in a club. I spit about the grind as it’s something within all of us. I spit about religion, how to love a woman to how to make love to a woman. I speak about hot Political/Governmental issues or even International ones. Then just like every other artist in the industry, I can spit ignorant ish that rhymes and sounds ill. Basically, I talk about anything and everything but the one main feature in any song I do is that it will be real as in something I’ve gone through, had a close one go through, or that I’ve witnessed/experienced. The music must always be real folks.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who is your fan base directed towards?

JAY $ILVER: My fan base is directed towards really anyone who likes good music. There’s really no age cap. Although when making my own music I’m going to use the words I see fit in my lyrics and sometimes that might involve some F bombs or something but I still make music for all. Maybe some need to age their ears at first, but I still encourage all to listen to my jammy tunes.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?

JAY $ILVER: Some of my main musical influences are those that I listened to growing up with my older brother and sister’s music around as well as what my mom would listen to when driving around or what she played when trying to relax once home from work. So artists like Jay-Z, Nas, KRS-One, Notorious B.I.G. and other hip-hop/rap artists from my brother. Some 112, Destiny’s Child, LL Cool J, Aaliyah as some contemporary R&B from my big sis. As well as some hip-hop and of course old time jazz and that soulful R&B with a lil bit of my Haitian roots sweet micky from my mom, as well as some Luther Vandross, Lionel Richie, and Sean Paul from the moms.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?

JAY $ILVER: I would describe my music as the perfect blend of old school hip-hop and new age rap. I say new age rap because I see I’ll have to dumb down my music a tiny bit and give the people what they want as that’s how this industry is transitioning, but don’t worry my REAL hip-hop fans and artists I am going to always keep it 100 and give bars! I will still do what I love with my tweak up on it but I’ll remember to keep you in mind since a lot of people don’t know how to really listen to music these days, but I’m here to educate them! I am one of history’s classic examples of true Hip-Hop & R&B, period!

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?

JAY $ILVER: What makes me stand out is what I’ve always been about since day one, my bars. My pure talent in the way I execute my flow which I never keep stagnant but have consistency. Lyrics Packed with Metaphors, Similes, References to other music/movies/pop culture/etc.. and how I simply kill these other cats in the game. Like what K.dot did with his Control Verse in calling dudes out, because yes we as artists are working together but all in fun competition as it’s our profession. So I always tell people to actually listen to the lyrics and how they’re so nicely laced to the beat whether freestyle or written and how I overall Jam because I know I kill.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?

JAY $ILVER: I am currently working on my first mixtape. I was going to make this actually an album at first as in a full LP but I reconsidered and I still want to continue dropping the world tastes of Jay$ilver for now because I know I should be recognized for my talents with the mic, and soon with the beats. I’m still going to give you guys some length with this piece as it’ll be around 7 Tracks, Title to be Released soon on the blog on www.Reverbnation.com/Jay$ilver hopefully along with an album cover as I’m getting with my artistic homies on this one. But it’ll be due 4th Quarter of 2014, yes this year soon, looking at Thanksgiving release date so stay tuned!

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

JAY $ILVER:   Let me start off by saying I am a very determined individual as “The Hustle is Strong with This One!” because I have a lot of goals I want to reach in life before I die. My Career Goals with Music is to take it in two different directions at the same time, back to the essence with lyrical storytelling, or fun dope rhymes in a cypher kind of way just ripping the mic or speaking on some realness like hood issues and contented raps other than what I call “the 4 bs’s” which is just about money, cars, clothes, and hoes. Doing this while bringing it to this new age kind we have now for our generations to come to still keep our older heads involved or getting older heads but hyping it up for the young folk. In 10 years from now haha okay so Im not going to lie I was 20 when I answered this but I have turned 21 by publishing date so at 31 if everything keeps hopefully going according to the plans I’ve set since I lived in New York as a child will have already been achieved as I will have had a successful Music Career and tour as I please while running my Dentistry empire and being a mogul having a hand in multiple areas of life, similar to Jay-Z ironically, with secure money for myself and family and hopefully by 31 I’ll have already found my Queen Bee haha but you never know these days…
