IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?

TY UNIVERSE: I am originally from Denver, Colorado and currently live in Atlanta, Georgia.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?

TY UNIVERSE: I have been writing poetry for over 20 years and been recording music for over 15 years. I am a songwriter, producer, engineer, singer, and rapper. I have a catalog of over 150 songs. I started out as a break dancer and my evolution to becoming an artist just progressed naturally.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?

TY UNIVERSE: I would like to record and release my own music because music is my passion and I want to share it with the world.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?

TY UNIVERSE: My songs are about my experiences in life. Whether I am speaking about love, my personal struggles, partying, the state of the world. My songs are about where ever the music takes me.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?

TY UNIVERSE: I have been influenced by many. I was raised on the sounds of the 70’s and 80’s so I would say Michael Jackson, Ready for the World, and Whodini. Also I would say the whole superfriends crew, Timbaland, Aaliyah, Missy, Static Major and Ginuwine. They really influenced my songwriting style and exploration of unique sounds. Tupac is also a major influence not only as an artist but as a person who was true to himself, and that is the only way for me to be.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?

TY UNIVERSE: My music is a mix of everything I listen to. It’s hip-hop mixed with pop and R&B and sometimes rock. I feel that music is a universal language so you’ll never know what to expect from me.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artist?

TY UNIVERSE: What separates me from other artist is the fact that I am not afraid to try new things. I don’t consider myself as just a singer or rapper, I am a musical artist. I can be on the same show as Young Jeezy and then turn around and do a show with Katy Perry.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Tells us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in your music career and how did you overcome?

TY UNIVERSE: The biggest challenge that I have faced in my career is myself. Early on in my career I couldn’t be told anything. I thought I knew it all and didn’t need to work on anything, and in turn I missed a lot of opportunities because of my ego. I had to experience life and be humbled. Now I feel that I am ready to be who I am destined to be.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects that you are currently working on?

TY UNIVERSE: I am currently putting the final touches on my album ’84 which is the year I was born. It’s a mix of rap, R&B, and pop. I also have my concept album Polyphonic Dope that I am really excited about.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

TY UNIVERSE: I want to solidify myself as a mainstream artist and a voice for those who have been grinding as long as I have. Proving that it is never too late to live your dream. I want to be able to own my own masters and become a music mogul. In ten years I see myself developing new talent and running my own label.
