IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?
EMONEY: I was born in Killeen,Texas (Fort Hood) and moved to El Paso, Texas when I was two. Since then, Edge town’s (El Paso) has been the city I call home. I’ve never lived in any other state in my life besides Texas so I’m always going to be a born and raised Texas boy at heart no matter where I go.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
EMONEY: Since I was born in 1992, I’m a 90’s baby. So I grew up listening to a lot of Hip Hop and R&B. What always caught my attention the most and what really developed my musical background is that some of the greatest songs ever made, no matter the genre, the artist doesn’t just have a special way of putting their words together, they make you want to listen and they tell a story. Not only do they paint a picture for you in your mind of what emotion the song carries, but you can feel the artist’s joy or pain and you can relate to what the artist has to say. Their ability to be able to move a crowd with a single verse, to be able to alter the imagination of the listener and make us see what they see, has always been remarkable to me. I grew up listening to a lot of Nas. I could probably recite his whole Illmatic album, but that’s beside the point. I also listen to a lot of Biggie, 2pac,Tech N9ne, Busta Rhymes, Talib Kweli, Mobb Deep, Dj Screw (of course), SwishaHouse, etc. But being a music lover, besides just an artist, I always liked to keep an open ear to basically any genre such as Trap, Rock, Jazz, Pop or whatever it might be. No matter the genre, you know a good a song when you hear one.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?
EMONEY: To be honest, I feel like everybody has a calling, a reason why they’re here, or even a purpose, you might say. Personally I feel that my purpose in life is to create music. There is a million other things I could be doing with my life other than being an artist, but music is the only thing that captures my mind, body and soul. As weird as it sounds, music is the only thing that I feel suits me as a person. Being able to create something that people enjoy and getting paid for it, is not only the typical dream job, but something that I want to pursue as a career. Music isn’t just a hobby for me. Music is my life.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
EMONEY: My songs are generally about life as I know it, how I feel, the different types of obstacles life has taken me through. Of course I make those party hits here and there, but I try to keep my music as personal as possible so I can create that same feel, that same vibe and love that every artist gives to their music. It puts a piece of me in every song to show my life and what I’ve been through to the listener. I like to make my music about every aspect of my life, to be able to relate to the listener and have that common bond through my music.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who is your fan base directed towards?
EMONEY: My fan base is directed towards anyone with an open mind and open ears. I love to do my best to diversify my music. This way I can at least have a few songs that listeners of all ages, no matter how young or old, to be able to have something to turn up or groove to. Ever since a young age, I’ve always loved to entertain people no matter what age. So my fan base is directed towards everyone.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are you musical influences?
EMONEY: Oh Lord, I’d have to say some of my musical influences are definitely Nas, Busta Rhymes, Tech n9ne, Slaughterhouse, Cassidy, Twista, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Outkast, Kanye (when he first came out), U.G.K., 2pac. The list goes on. My musical influences are people who not only told their story, but put it in a way that would make you remember their journey and legacy forever.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
EMONEY: I would describe my music to people as a new sound for Texas. Coming from the land where chopped and screwed originated, I would describe my music as a new plateau. Another reason to look at artists from Texas differently and not think we’re all the same. I’d like to describe my music to people as a gateway drug for Texas. If you think my music is dope, wait until you see what the rest of Texas has to offer.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?
EMONEY: From what I’ve been told, the reason why I stand out from other artists is because I’m not afraid to be myself. I know personally what sets me apart from a lot of artists. Now a days, artists are too consumed in rapping about being thugs and killing people etc. But me, I’ll tell you straight up, that’s not the life that was meant for me. I’m not gonna lie about the person I am. I try to be as charismatic in my music and let the listener know exactly who I am as a person. I like to use my lyrics to not only let the listener know a little about me, but to also be able to hit them with catchy punch lines to capture them from beginning to end. What makes me stand out is that no matter what you do, no matter your race, age, occupation -legal or illegal, people can relate to my music.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?
EMONEY: Currently, I’m actually close to finishing my second mix tape, Genesis: Reloaded. That should be hitting the streets here in a few months on www.datpiff.com, live mix tapes, etc. I’m also currently in the process of developing a few music videos for the mix tape dropping soon, so be on the lookout for some hot new stuff coming your way!
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals?
EMONEY: My career goals are to not only be a known artist, but to also have my degree in audio engineering and song writing and be able to work for or run a successful label. To be able to do what I love is my career goal. Whether it be performing, ghost writing, audio editing, mixing and mastering, whatever you may have it. My career goal is the same goal that everyone has in this life, to succeed.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
EMONEY: In ten years, I see myself running a label and mentoring young people like me to be able to excel at what they do best. I see myself sitting at the Grammy’s next to people just as creative as me competing to win the award. In ten years, I see myself being more than just an artist. You can call me crazy all you want but my vision for my life is too clear for me to stop now.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How can your fans access your music and contact you?
EMONEY: All my fans can get in touch with me through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. They can hear all of my music and follow me on Soundcloud and Reverbnation to keep up to date with everything Emoney and keep up with the release date of the new mix tape coming out, Genesis:Reloaded.
