IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?
NIC DANTE: I’m originally from Fort Lauderdale Florida but I grew up moving around a lot from Memphis to Las Vegas to New Orleans until settling in Long Beach, Mississippi where I did the majority of my growing up for about eight years until Hurricane Katrina hit. Now I reside in San Antonio, Texas. I have to say it has been a major blessing for me because this where I became the artist I am today and built the relationship with other major artists that I would have never had the opportunity to meet in another place
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
NIC DANTE: Well my musical background definitely comes from my father. He’s been entertaining for over 37 years. Starting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania when he was 17, touring with the Platters, Stylistics, Chubby Checker. He went on to front a few of his own major groups such as a Rock Outs and Stan Wayne’s Heart and Soul. Currently, my father, brother and myself perform together as a musical cover group known as the Stan Wayne Review. He shows me what it means to be a true entertainer through and through. Singing, dancing, performing, the whole nine! I don’t know where I’d be without him!
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?
NIC DANTE: I really wanted to record my own music since I was young because I’ve always felt like I had a gift for performing but more so an ear for what a hit record sounds like. There’s also nothing like performing your own music that comes from your heart and seeing a crowd sing those words back to you! Really makes you feel accomplished as an artist.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
NIC DANTE: I would say definitely most of my more emotional songs come from situations I dealt with in relationships and sometimes things that happen with my family or friends. Then I definitely have that party music side where it’s about the things that come with the lifestyle, women, money, partying, things like that but I try to keep the degrading to a minimum (laughs).
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who is your fan base directed towards?
NIC DANTE: I would say from experience my fan base is more directed towards women, but one thing I love is that I still get respect from the fellas. Like fellas from ya hood that are into gangsta music to your college frat guy. Honestly I think it’s cause I don’t look like your typical pretty boy trying to take your girl, I let my talent do the talking. I’ve had a girl come up at one my shows and tell me that she came to see my show cause her homeboy was pumping me up so much she had to see what local artist turned her homie into a groupie! (laughs)
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
NIC DANTE: I have to say my first major musical influence was my father cause he had an ear for all types of music so my early influences in music contained artists such as Jackie Wilson, Otis Redding, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson. As I got older I got into all types of music and was generally inspired by Hip-Hop, R&B and pop. Artists such as Biggie, Tupac, Usher, N’sync, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, even as far as 3 doors down, Rascal Flatts and I think that mixture really shows in my music.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
NIC DANTE: I would have to say my music is very eclectic. I usually tell people if you like a lot of different styles of music such as pop, hip-hop, R&B, top 40, you will like at least one of my songs. Being in a cover band for a living you generally tend to like a lot of different genres of music so it kind of comes out in my recording. Both performing and recording are my passion and people love what comes from the heart.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?
NIC DANTE: I would have to say what makes me stand out from other artists is my ability to do any type of music. Like the greats before me, Ray Charles and Elvis Presley, who would do R&B or pop music and then do a country album and make it successful. Also I would have to say the fact that I’m an all around entertainer and not just the singer or dancer, I’m able to draw people in by my performance. At first glance they wouldn’t even expect that I can do, what I do.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?
NIC DANTE: I just released a single on iTunes called “Round and Round”, featuring a local artist by the name of Breez Hustle. It’ll definitely get you dancing and moving! My next record, “Spotlight” is featuring The BX Legend, Fat Joe, that I will be releasing sometime towards the end of June!
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
NIC DANTE: My main career goal is becoming an established artist in the industry with a reputation for working hard and always delivering great music and entertainment to the people! 10 years from now I see myself very successful with my wife and children, hopefully settled down somewhere that I can start an entertainment company that helps find and develop young talent. I want to show them what it means to be a true entertainer with music business sense because there is an extreme lack of entertainment value and business knowledge in a lot of artists today. Social media is making anyone a star with a couple million views and before you know it they sign a deal that’s going to do more harm than good. I want future artists to not only be successful in music but also financially.
