IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?

FLORIDA BOI: I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. I lived in Liberty City, home of the infamous Pork and Beans Projects.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?

FLORIDA BOI: I grew up listening to a lot of old school music; from Biggie and Tupac to the Wu-Tang Clan and Devin the Dude, just to name a few. “Ready to Die,” everything Tupac ever made but more importantly, “Dear Momma,” was very influential because I could relate to it fully. Everything from the struggle to being basically homeless. I love all genre of music from classic rock-and-roll to old school soulful music. Marvin Gaye was one of my all time favorite old school artists, from the first time I heard, “Sexual Healing,” he had me. It’s funny cause I was very young back then and I didn’t know what sex even was.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?

FLORIDA BOI: I have a story to tell and the only way to best express myself is through music. I have a strong desire to share my trials and tribulations and how I survived and overcame them, to the world.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?

FLORIDA BOI: LOYALTY so many people who call themselves friends and family that when you need them, they’re nowhere to be found or there’s always an excuse for why they can’t be there for you. So I lead by example and I choose the people I associate with wisely. Loyalty is the KEY to any successful relationship that you commit to and I believe that strongly. THE STRUGGLE- I’ve been through so many life changing situations. From being poverty stricken to damn near homeless, not being able to find employment because of my criminal background. I want to share my life and everything that I’ve been through with whoever has an ear to listen. LOVE- I’ve had many relationships; from being married and going through divorce. Doing whatever it takes to provide for children. Looking high and low for “Miss Right” and making her mine. Love is a beautiful thing, you should always have love associated with everything that you do. Conscience- I love knowledge. I read almost anything that has to do with my heritage and history of my people as well as study law. Knowing is half the battle. So I strive to deliver a positive message through my music, at least, some of it anyway. Street- I consider myself a product of my environment. I’ve made a lot of bad choices in my life which led to me being incarcerated in a federal prison. From dealing drugs to robbing and stealing, doing whatever it took to survive out there in the streets in order to provide for my family. Overcoming my opposition- I survived through it all. Everything from losing family and friends to gun violence, drug addiction, watching my mother and older brother damn near lose their life dealing with her ex-husband. My pain and suffering, my journey through the prison system, my poor decision making. I’m still here better than I ever was. Making my negatives, positives. Being a better decision maker and never folding under pressure. I love who I have become, but I can never forget where I came from and the things I went through. I’m focused. The Truth- I believe in being truthful in everything that I do. So my music reflects who I am as a person, there is no persona. What you see and hear is what you get. I’m a straight-to-the-point type of person, so music will always be THE TRUTH.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who is your fan base directed towards?

FLORIDA BOI: I strongly believe that my music applies to those of us who know what it feels like to go through and overcome any and everything that’s put in our path. People who can relate to and understand things better when they have experienced it themselves. Life is what we make it for some of us, but for most of us the cards are already set and we have to play them the best way we know how. Some of us don’t have a place to call home, some of us don’t know where that next meal is coming from, or how we’re going to pay those bills that keep coming. I speak for everybody who knows what it is to struggle and never give up.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?

FLORIDA BOI: “I Love You,” by Lenny Williams, that’s a classic love song right there, it makes you feel good when you hear it. It makes me want to make that type of feel good, mood changing music. “Juicy,” by Biggie Smalls, he spoke nothing but the truth on that record, I could fully relate to it. I Declare War album by Pastor Troy was full of so much energy that it made you want to move around. It’s filled with so much charisma. Master P was a great business man and I loved his ambition. He came and took over the rap game. People who hear my music say I sound just like him but I’m way better at rapping than he is. Devin the Dude is a great story teller. He’s one of the best “slept on” rappers in the game. Yo Gotti speaks from the aspect of the streets; I can feel and relate to everything he says.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?

FLORIDA BOI: I would describe it as “refreshing” and I say that because the music today is so ridiculously watered down and saturated. There’s no lyrical content, its best described as “nothingness”

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?

FLORIDA BOI: As an artist, I believe in living by a creed, “loyalty is everything.” Staying true to me and what I believe in is what separates me from other artists. Artists these days follow a trend and I’m not a follower, I’m a trendsetter.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?

FLORIDA BOI: I’m currently working on the L.I.E. mixtape; L.I.E. stands for, “Loyalty Is Everything.” I chose that title because it best describes what I’m all about. The mixtape will host 19 tracks with a few features from other artists around the city in which I reside in, Macon, GA. There will be industry tacks as well as original material. I’m also working on the REDRUM album. I chose that title because I literally murder ever track on the album, which will have 12 to 15 tracks on it. I have over 100 songs in my catalogue right now. I record 4, maybe 5 times a week, so it’s growing consistently.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

FLORIDA BOI: Career wise, I’m planning on opening my own marketing and promotional company. Specializing in everything from promoting artists, music, posters and clothing to engineering and recording them. As well as a shoe boutique for both men and women; selling only the best in exotic luxury shoes that you just can’t walk into the mall and find and you can actually get your shoes custom made out of whatever material you desire. 10 years from now, I see myself being successful in my business ventures and hopefully retired sitting on a beach in Costa Rica smoking the finest cigars, enjoying life with family and friends.
