IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?
WHO: I was born in Mexico, lived out in Cali for a couple years but around my elementary years we moved out to Rockford, IL; home of the famous Mrs. Fishers chips. It’s about an hour and half from the windy city.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
WHO: I listened to everything from Alternative Rock to Selena as a kid. My mom would blast her music while I did chores around the crib, but the golden era captivated me. It’s my escape, the stories they told and how they all expressed themselves is priceless. It’s all art to me, as well as therapy.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?
WHO: I want to help people get through their problems. I want to be the artist you listen to on your way to work when you know you have a double shift in your path. Or let’s say all you have is a dollar in those same pants you wear every day and your daughter’s birthday is coming up, what you going to do? That right there can drive a man insane. My music is a reminder that for every issue in life, there’s a solution. It’s all ups and downs man.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
WHO: Relationships, personal opinions, life in general, we’re all entitled to an opinion so why not share it with the world. The mood I’m in when I write or record a song plays a huge role too. I’m a Mexican dude that grew up in the States, I see things two different ways, two cultures blended together and I’m here to share that story.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
WHO: My list is huge but some off the top of my head are Outkast, A Tribe Called Quest, J Dilla, Yeezy, Biggie, Devin the Dude, UGK, Nas , T.I.P. and DJ Jazzy Jeff. They all play an individual role in my music.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
WHO: Happy with a dose of reality, easy to relate to, emotion is the gas to my records. My music makes you smile, makes you think, makes you feel comfortable with being you.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?
WHO: Being myself, no one can ever be you.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in your music career and how did you overcome?
WHO: Finding a studio in my area was my biggest challenge. There’s a crazy story behind it; I got cool with this dude at work and we started talking about music. He said he knows this dope engineer where I could record at and next thing you know we linked up, I spit a 16 on one of his tracks and now I’m living in the same house where I record at.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?
WHO: Working very hard on this mixtape. I have a name for it but I’m going to keep it to myself at the moment though.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
WHO: Doing what I love to do, which is music. As far as the where I see myself in 10 years- I see myself still working hard, it never ends.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How can your fans access your music and contact you?
WHO: Hit up my Twitter @whomusic815,
