GhostMatic was born in Paterson, New Jersey in 1981 and later moved to Augusta, GA in 1991. It was here that GhostMatic lived and grew before enlisting in the Air Force in 2001. After serving a long, hard ten years with the United States Military, Ghost separated from the forces in 2011, more than ready to embark on his career as a full time artist.
GhostMatic has been involved in music since he can remember, but noticed around the age of 14 that he had a unique talent. He would write songs to beats and mastered the art of freestyling, so much so that he went on to win competitions and cyphers whilst still in his teens. Ghost has been doing his own production since 2005, and has been noticed by labels such as Sony and Universal, but was unfortunately deployed to Iraq.
After a couple of years residing in the UK and meeting fellow T.U.A (The Ultimate Alliance) team members, performing live in Ipswich, Norwich, Newmarket, Derby, Peterborough and Germany; GhostMatic has returned to America to perfect his music production and fulfill what he has set out to achieve in the music industry. As a solo artist, GhostMatic brings a different sound and charisma to the industry; versatility is his weapon of choice and he strives harder than any to be able to deliver on any song to any beat at any time.
Since 2012, GhostMatic has made progress and after only releasing one track was nominated as elite by Reverbnation and Coast 2 Coast Mixtapes, placing him on the 50 top independent artists album.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What City and state are you from?
GHOSTMATIC: I was born in Paterson, New Jersey, but I grew up in Augusta, Georgia. I currently live in Atlanta.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
GHOSTMATIC: My father used to play a lot of oldies from the Ohio Players to Cameo. I just kinda fell into it because I loved to put words together.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music? GHOSTMATIC: I feel like my music is different than what has been put out on display, I want to release it because people need to hear it, it’s more than just making music to make people move, but I want to help people see that life is more than the block, more than your city. Coming from the projects of New Jersey I’ve been placed against many odds and I’ve defied them all.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
GHOSTMATIC: I have a wide range of music, from club bangers to real deep situations that many people face but most hardly know the words to express it. I can cover most topics as I’ve had to learn my life lessons the hard way.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who is your fan base direct towards?
GHOSTMATIC: I’d like to think it was the average everyday hard working man and woman, to the dope boys and the military, I used to be in the Air Force (salute to all my friends still serving). Being back in the streets without much help from the military showed me that it’s hard out here to make it on your own, so I do this for those in the struggle!
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
GHOSTMATIC: Me being an East Coast kid, I grew up listening to Run DMC, Biggie, Tupac, Busta Rhymes and Wu-Tang, Outkast (huge influence on me) believe it or not I loved Rock n Roll growing up, AeroSmith was my favorite band, then they fused with hip hop and that moment changed my life forever. Now you got Eminem, Joe Budden and so many other influences to the game. Time for me to set my stage.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe you music to people?
GHOSTMATIC: I describe my music as real Hip-Hop, people ask me if I make beats and I tell them no, I make a beat sound better. My music has been described as lyrical, yet catchy enough to make the normal artist reconstruct their own style. It is entertainment and education, for those who are willing to listen. Hip-Hop in this era is coming back to its original form, the form of storytelling but to help empower our community and not damage it.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you standout from other artists?
GHOSTMATIC: I stand out with versatility, fast flow, slow flow, free flow, just having the ability to mesh with almost any genre of music and having worked with artists from many different areas of the profession, indie, underground, to mainstream, they have all told me to pursue music from what they heard. It takes that type of energy these days to standout and I don’t plan on fitting in.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some of the upcoming projects you are currently working on?
GHOSTMATIC: I am currently working on a premiere project (not a mix tape), The GhostMatic Experience, it’s my experience through my life the most inner part of me to help my fans and supporters who don’t personally know me, get to know me on a more personal level. I do a lot of work with a good friend of mine and he’s featured on this project as well.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
GHOSTMATIC: My goals for music is simple, influence others to follow their dreams and do what you love, and if it makes you happy without harming others, then by all means do that. It’s a hard road to take but trust that anything worth it isn’t easy. In 10 years I can see myself being iconic, still doing my thing, teaching my sons some of the music now, at 5 and 6 they are my toughest critics so I believe I’ll still be doing this in 10 years.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How can your fans access your music and contact you?
GHOSTMATIC: I can be reached at my personal website www.Ghostmatic1.com, all my links to my social media is linked to this site. My Instagram is GhostMatic, and I’m also releasing a clothing line soon Richmen Co Clothing. Stay tuned for more.
