IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?
2LIVE: I am from San Antonio, TX. I was born and raised here and have been living here all of my life minus one year when I moved to Detroit, Michigan with my step-father.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
2LIVE: I came up from rap as a young child. I would listen to Ghetto Boys with my father or a little bit of Ice Cube. Then as I grew older I got introduced to rock music and even started my own band. I really got into music around the age of 14. I would write remixes to songs that I liked and recorded them on a karaoke machine. Then I went around looking for studios I could record in and learned that my uncle had his own studio. I started going to the studio often and recording everything I had and being mentored by my uncle. As I got older, I got better and people started to notice and now I perform in my city and sometimes other cities. I have performed in Austin TX at the SXSW. I also performed at many open mic events at different night clubs or parties. My stage name is 2LIVE and I am working on developing my own brand called Guttah Mouf Ent.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
2LIVE: My songs are pretty much about the thug life, I usually rap about the gangster type life style such as sex, money, drugs and killing. I can rap about anything. I also rap about love and just turning up and partying.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your favorite song to perform and why? 2LIVE: My favorite song of mine to perform would be my remix to Rich Kid and The Migos song “Jumping Like Jordan”. I love to perform this song because the beat has so much bass and energy and once the beat drops everyone in the club refuses to sit still. The song is fast paced and full of energy and the lyrics are perfect for the beat. Over all it just gets the club hyped and the crowd to rock with me.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What has surprised you the most in the pursuit of a career in music?
2LIVE: The thing that surprised me the most I would say is how people went from, “oh he can’t rap”, to “oh my god that’s your song!” Another thing would be how I used to call around and ask people if I can perform at their venues and instead they call and ask me if I can open up or perform at their events.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
2LIVE: I have so many musical influences because everyone has their own style or sound. Some of my musical influences are artists such as Meek Mill, Rick Ross, Chief Keef, T.I., Lil Snupe, Chris Brown, August Alsina, Trey Songz, Boys II Men, Lil Wayne and Kevin Gates.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
2LIVE: I would describe my music to people as gangster, violent, real, hyped, full of anger and emotions. That type of music that expresses someone who is going through the rough times of their life and can’t find a way out so they do whatever they can to make it and on top of that don’t trust too many people or take mess from anybody.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?
2LIVE: The thing that makes me stand out from other artists would be my energy and my creativity. I work hard to please people and I’m not selfish, I care about everybody and their opinion, most of the time.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What would you like to see changed in today’s music industry?
2LIVE: What I would like to see changed in today’s industry is how independent artists are discovered and signed. From what I can see the industry chooses who they want to sign by views instead of by talent. There are so many artists who have talent that don’t have the money and or resources even equipment to put themselves out there to be heard.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?
2LIVE: I am currently working on my very first mixtape, Goin In, and trying to get to the point where I can get paid to do shows and get sponsors. I am also working on trying to sign a record deal so I can take my career to the next level.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
2LIVE: My career goals are to be one of the greatest rappers of all time, to become a legend and maybe someday start my own record label and sign independent artists. In ten years I would say I see myself as the most respected rapper of all time and for everyone to know my name. I can see myself on everybody’s tracks and in movies.
