Travis Canady, formally known as Traevis, lives by and applies to his warrior like work ethic. Born and raised in a small country town in Texas, the songwriter/singer/producer has came along way since singing into a $5 headset microphone from Wal-Mart.

Raised in a christian family,(his father a preacher, and mother a Sunday school teacher) Traevis began singing in his mothers youth choir at the young age of four, and in only just a few years gained the ability to write songs and play instruments. As a young child Traevis grew up to listening and watching many artists such as; Michael Jackson, Usher, and Al Green, which would later become his biggest influences.

It wasn’t until the year 2010 that Traevis decided to take his dream and vision of becoming a professional world reknown recording artist/entertainer to the next level. Unable to afford the costs of using and recording in an actual recording studio, Traevis decided to create a recording studio in his home at his own convenience. With just a $5 headset microphone, and recording studio software the inspiring singer began to attempt to create and produce his own tracks, write his own songs, and mix his own songs.

In the fall of 2010 Traevis completed his first independent studio album, having all the songs written and produced by himself. The album was entitled “Genesis” representing the beginning of a dream that he had been dreaming and chasing ever since he was 4 years old. The debut effort had many influences with many different genres of music, ranging from the soulful and sensual R&B, and Hip-Hip, to the radio ready Pop. 6 months later, Traevis released yet another independent studio album his sophomore effort “In My Own Way” under his own independent record label “TEChnical Records”. The sophomore effort consisted of mainly R&B his core genre of choice, and with a little of his secondary genre Pop.

On March of 2012 Traevis released a promo single “Fool With Me” from his highly anticipated third studio album “Evolution” due the fall of 2012. The single has gained a positive response from the urban audience, for his change of sound and vocals, songwriting, and production.

It wasn’t until mid 2013 that Traevis decided to step into new waters. In the beginning stages of his career he started off with pure hip-hop, only to make his own features later on. His first hip-hop/rap single “Booty Talk”, changed the whole outlook on his music given him more versatility and rep. The full-time singer/part-time rapper, turned part-time singer/full-time rapper is under his own imprint Instant Classic Music.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?

TRAEVIS: I am from a small country town in the lone star state, Fairfield, Texas.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?

TRAEVIS: Well music has always been a huge thing in my family. From what I remember my grandfather played lead guitar in a Commodore’s tribute band for about 30 years. My grandmother played piano for her church, and also gave piano lessons as a hobby for as long as I can remember. My mother gives vocal lessons, and was the music director at her church for many years. My sister played in the percussion section of both her junior high, and high school band. She is also currently playing in her church band, yes majority of the music that my family deals with is Christian and Gospel.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?

TRAEVIS: My songs are about many things. The topics depend on the mood and feelings I get when I hear the “voices” in my head spitting lyrics. I love to write about the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. I’m a very personal artist so I like to create songs that are very real, either they are past experiences that have happened to me, or someone close to me. If you can relate to it, it may can help you can get through it.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your favorite song to perform and why?

TRAEVIS: My favorite song to perform would have to be, “I’m Going Home”. That song has to be my most personal song to date. Every word I deliver the audience hangs on as I tell a heartfelt story that everyone can relate to.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What has surprised you the most in the pursuit of a career in music?

TRAEVIS: I hope nobody takes this as being arrogant or cocky, but so far I haven’t been surprised by anything, everything is anticipated as well as expected. If there is something I don’t know I do my best to find out, I go by this motto, “If you stay ready, you don’t gotta get ready”. When you stay ready not to many surprises happen.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?

TRAEVIS: Man, have so many influences I can go on for days listing them. I’m young, but I grew up on legendary artist like; Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, James Taylor, and Phil Collins just to name a few. But in my music you can hear influences from a wide range of modern day artist such as; Drake, J. Cole, Eminem, Linkin Park, and Flo Rida.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?

TRAEVIS: My music can be described as everything on music spectrum. I say that because my music has no limits, barriers, or boundaries, there is literally something for anyone that is a fan of music period.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?

TRAEVIS: I stand out from other artist because I refuse to be placed in a box, and run in the same lane as everyone else. That’s why I believe, and live by going against the grain, yes I’m a rapper but do I do only Rap, and Hip-Hop? No, I also do R&B, Alternative Rock, Pop Rock, Acoustics, Country Rap, and EDM.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What would you like to see changed in today’s music industry?

TRAEVIS:  I would love to see pirating, and illegal downloading come to complete stop. On a serious note I would love to music to go back to the golden days where songs that were played on the radio were pages of chapters from the book that we call life played over and over in our hearts and minds. Just picture looking out the window and seeing everyone in your neighborhood are outside dancing in the street. Music is meant to bring people together.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects that you are currently working on?

TRAEVIS: I actually just finished up my fifth album, and in the works of making new material for a proper follow up. “Spectrum”, is the album title of my current project, it is everything you can imagine but can’t expect. With each song there is a different phase. With each different phase there is a different story, and with each different story you get a different experience with different genres placed together to make an incredible sound.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

TRAEVIS: My career goals are very simple. I want to make the best music that I can make, push myself over limits that seem unreachable, and most importantly even if it sounds cheesy be the absolute best I can be. In ten years, I see myself as an established artist that has won a few major awards, received a few RIAA certified singles, and albums, and sold out tours. I also want to dip into the acting part of entertainment, play a major role in a few movies, and make a couple of appearances on TV shows. But most importantly have a non-profit organization that provide funds, food, and goods to children, and families that are living in poverty or are homeless.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How can your fans access your music and contact you?

TRAEVIS: My fans can access my music on online stores such as; iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, and Rhapsody. Fans can contact me on social media sites like; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Soundcloud, and Reverbnation. My fans are not just fans I consider them as my friends, and family.
