IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?

LAH PREMIERE: I am from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, home of the Tigers, Jaguars and Jig music.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?

LAH PREMIERE: The name “LAH” derives from the marvel superhuman Colossus. Then my friend named “Star” dubbed me LAH.  I have been evolving wordplay since I was a toddler. I am probably the first person to ever beatbox on the Oval Office Microphone and how dope is that I am a dope Hip-Hop MC and the President and I share the same birthday? Music was divinely thrust upon me given my family has little to no musicians besides my cousin and I. I played the violin and alto sax from elementary to high school, but other than that I fell in love with Hip-Hop while buying No Limit albums every other week as well as listening to Black Starr, Black Thought, and Cash Money Millionaires.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?

LAH PREMIERE: My songs are about my world and the way I navigate through it. My experiences, trials, tribulations, wins, losses, faith, shortcomings, wisdom, love, heartache(s). LAH songs represent the uncommon common man’s journey to self as well as prosperity. Lemonade and Shade is about turning lemons into lemonade, and well, shade is for the milestoners.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your favorite song to perform and why?

LAH PREMIERE: That’s an easy one! “Made Up My Mind” is my joint! It represents the power of focus, grind, preservation and perseverance. Once the beat begins to crank, the energy builds as the verses get closer and then it is magic until the track finishes. This song was the song that kicked off my independence from group projects and over extending my resources.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What has surprised you most in the pursuit of a career in music?

LAH PREMIERE: The constant positive feedback and encouragement from fans/supporters surprises me the most after all these years of putting out music my way. God is good and has been good at least since ‘84.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
LAH PREMIERE: My musical influences are Reign tha Rebel, Leslie Bentil, Nas, Outkast, BlackStarr, Black Thought, Snoop, Master P, Cash Money Records, Kanye, Jay Z, Biggie, Pac, UGK, Diddy, DMX, Will Smith, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Busta Rhymes and the list goes on.   I am influenced by protectors and pioneers of the game even though I enjoy being a part of its evolution.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?

LAH PREMIERE: Timeless, soulful, inspiring “self-centeredness” – knowing self, balancing sharing and caring with selfishness to say the least.   I am a sub-urban intellect with a southside flare, so you can get clever lyricism blended with ego and energetic bars. I would describe my sound as classic and fantastic.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?

LAH PREMIERE: What makes me stand out from other artists is my sound first then it is my humble. I come “as is” so you can either accept it or disown it but it is me all day every day.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What would you like to see changed into today’s music industry?

LAH PREMIERE: I would like to see the artist get more compensation for their online shared files and streaming recurrences, but I would settle for more passion and purpose amidst the industry rather than quick profit seekers

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are working on?

LAH PREMIERE: I am finally bringing my fourth project to a close :”Lemonade and Shade” in which I am very proud of due to the obstacles overcome of putting it out. My first mixtape “No Production?!” is about 50% recorded and 80% composed (written/drafted). The theme of my career has to been to keep it moving forward no matter what, which brings me to my next ep, “SELF-ish” basically I am doing LAH 100% these days with no apologies and no procrastination.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in ten years?

LAH PREMIERE: My career goals are to put out the best quality music possible and acquire a ton of accolades from it. Millions of dollars would be nice but billions sound better and I am all about “sound”. In ten years, I see myself uplifting the youth and other aspiring artist because I have a talent for developing individuals. Make Money. Open Doors. Give Back. It’s that simple for me.
