YOUNG THUG WORKING ON NEXT PROJECT “CARTER 6”

Who knew Carter 6 would come out before Carter 5? Better yet, who knew Carter 6 would be performed by anyone other than Lil Wayne himself. Last year, Young Thug hinted that his first proper studio album would bear the title, as he planned to follow in Wayne’s footsteps following his proposed retirement.

Since then, Weezy has been battling his label to have his swan song released, but has been unsuccessful in dropping the album. Weirdly, this has not stopped Thugger’s plans to release the follow up, as today he shared a snippet of a “Grindin'” remix on Instagram, captioning it “#CARTER6 OTW”.

His reps at 300 confirmed the project in a tweet, though it’s not clear if the title belongs to Thug’s debut album, or is simply another mixtape. The fact that he shared a freestyle to one of Wayne’s songs along with the announcement suggests the latter, though a circulated tracklist for C5 did list him as a feature on the official remix.

While Wayne has yet to comment on the announcement, his kin has stepped in to defend his legacy, with Reginae calling Thugger “childish” for lifting the series from her father.

“Try again if you’re even trying to get on my fathers level,” she wrote, adding later, “I usually stay in a child’s place but that’s my father and I’ll stick up for him no matter what ! It was not to be disrespectful.”
