“It’s VDot B*#ch!!!” VDot Colei (know to the ladies as Mr. Giggidy) was born and raised in the “North Pole”
(Evanston,Il. ) for the most part. VDot Colei also spent time living on the west-side in the Henry Hornet Project Housing Development in what some and modern social media, are starting to call “Chiraq kIllinois”! VDot also had the extremely wonderful opportunity to live in various cities around the GA. This is Where VDot fell in love with the art form of writing music and as he likes to call it “Murda’ the Beat”! Shortly after making a drastic and sudden move back to Chicago Illinois/ Evanston Illinois during the middle of Vincent DeAngelo Walker’s freshmen year of high school, where Vincent “VDot Colei” Walker attended Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta Ga. VDot hooked back up with some of his family and friends and began to start building the Self-Proclaimed Unsigned Record Label, “DOA Records”. In current times VDot Colei has seem to excel no matter how many times he has had run-in with Law Enforcement and ever after being Locked-up a number of times Vincent “VDot Colei” Walker has gather some of his friends and family to help bring the world new fun felt music everyone will relate to.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?
VDOT COLEI: I was born and raised for the most part of my life in Evanston Illinois. I also spent time living on the west- side of Chicago Illinois in the Henry Hornet low- income Housing Projects. I further more lived in a couple of city’s in the great state of Georgia ( Altanta, Columbus, and East Point), for two and a half years. As for now I’m living back in my beloved home city and state, Evanston Illinois, and around the Chicago’s north- side land area.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
VDOT COLEI: I have always been involved with music. I started off wanting to be a singer when I was a little boy. I sang in my elementary school’s choir. It was during those early days in my life when I started to develop my songwriting techniques as a singer. I also sang for my first high school’s choir at Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta Ga. It was there where I fell in love and got introduced to that, “dirty south southern slang crunk music.” It wasn’t until I return to the windy city Chicago, that I started to curve my skills to hip- hop/ rap music. I have been writing and performing my music ever since. Over the years while striding to become my own artist, I have picked up a couple of trades revolving around the music entertainment business in order to push myself as a rapper/ songwriter/ beat maker/ producer but most of all, as an artist! One of which is becoming a self-taught guitarist. I picked up the instrument a few years ago remembering how I always wanted to learn how to play the guitar like my favorite artist, Prince. I also felt it was a great trade to learn seeing how I make beats plus, I feel every artist should know how to play an instrument.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?
VDOT COLEI: The reason I record and release my own music is because I love to perform for people! I just love that feeling I get when I know I have everyone’s attention. I love seeing the reaction on the face of the audience after they’ve heard my first set of lyrics I know that what they just heard me say; shocked, amazed, provoked, or invoked something on inside of them. It’s also the process of coming up with new songs and material that make being a recording artist so fun. I want people to dance, have fun, relate, and think when they listen to my music. Of course I also would like to make money from something I love to do and have dedicated time towards. I love my artistic creations and hope that people around the world will also feel it!
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
VDOT COLEI: I have many topics I touch on in the songs I put out. In some songs I talk about getting/ hustling for money in the streets. In other song I talk about different situations I have been through with friends, family, oppositions artist/ gangs, ex’s, sex, drugs, violence, religion, politics and much more. There is no topic that I won’t speak on. I string my lyrics and words in a way that will leave the listener wanting to hear the song again and again, in search of deep meanings and what I call “double and triple metaphors”.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who is your fan base directed towards?
VDOT COLEI: I am looking to recruit everyone as a VDot Fan! When I make my music I’m direct it towards everyone that love’s good music. I mean it’s towards those people out there that got that drive in life. It’s towards that homie in the hood that’s on his grind, towards little mommy on that pole twerking all night. It’s also for the people that like to dance, make money, and listen to raw talented music. But most of all its towards the next hot artists that will come after me. I want to inspire them and tell them that, “doing you and being you” is what makes an artist an original and innovative one. I want to lead by example and bring back raw lyrics, techniques, and styles back to hip- hop/ rap music.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your music influences?
VDOT COLEI: Some of my musical influences are; Prince, Eminem, Ludacris, Aaliyah, The Temptations, Michael Jackson, T.I, Busta Rhymes, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Bun B, Snoop Dogg, Twista, Notorious B.I.G, R- Kelly, 2Pac, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Drake, Cassidy, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Mary J Blige, Goo Goo Dolls, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fall Out Boy, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Missy, James Brown, Trey Songz, Chris Brown, Red Man, Method Man, “8Ball and MJG”, and many more. The reason Prince is at the top of the list is because,he stands out like none other on this list other than, Eminem. Prince has changed the game so many times along with being able to play multiple instruments. He is one of the best artists in my eyes that can portray emotion in his many different voices and rhythms.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who would you describe your music to people?
VDOT COLEI: I would describe it as raw, untamed, animalistic, bar for bar lyricism. It’s not what we’re hearing on the radio stations, and that’s the problem! I feel that as soon as you hear the way I finesse the beat you’ll be hooked to the style, wordplay, and stamina that you feel. It’s something you and your friends can ride too, sing while you nod your heads and pump your shoulders up and down in the car to. It something you and your “friend” can go make love to or maybe not love, maybe just have sex to. It’s something that after you hear it, it will be stuck in your head! It’s going to make a lot of rappers want to go write their own songs and verses. It will make artists want to push the boundaries of their artistry and expanding to other genres and even create new ones. It’s the type of rap/ hip- hop/ pop music that does hold deeper meaning.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artist?
VDOT COLEI: I feel that what makes me stand out from other artist is my ability to project my raw emotions in to my music, artistry, and fashion sense. Another way I feel I differ from most artists in my genre is, I don’t just look at myself as just a rapper. I also make beats, produce other artists music as well as my own. I even express myself in the colored shirt I wear. I feel I’m a next generation artist that won’t be and can’t be defined into just one classification. I view myself as a versatile artist that likes to make new colorful soul felt music that will break through any categorical barriers. The most important thing that I feel sets me aside from the normal everyday artist that we all see and hear in the industry is, when I write my songs I always imagine I’m already standing in front of a sold out stadium and ask myself, “What do the Fans want and need to hear?” I feel like I’m the “people’s artist” you know, “your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper!”
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on ?
VDOT COLEI: I am starting to gear up for my next and newest addition to my mixtape album collection, which will be entitled, “The Winter Soldier”. On it will be two new single, “Priceless” and “ A Million Buck”. The single “A Million Bucks” in my opinion, will surely be a song that will have everyone in the clubs, school dances, in their cars, in their front rooms rock and singing; “I bet this make you feel just like a million bucks”. It’s a song that when you wake up and hear it on the radio, it going to get you pumped up to get ready for this next day’s grind. I have also start putting plans into action to start modeling and acting again, seeing how I’ve had experiences with both as a child and teenager. So hopefully we all will be seeing more and more of me in the near future. And as always, I will continue to drop new music. I also hope to start and play in rock/ rap/ R&B/ pop type band in the distant future.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are you career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
VDOT COLEI: In my career my main goal is to make great music that people want and love to hear. I plan to encourage, influence, and motivate people to pursue their dreams and wants in life like their needs! My one goal in music for me since I was a little kid was to rock a good show in front of a sold out arena of my fan and hear them spitting my lyrics back to me with the same energy I put in to the song. I feel like there’s no greater glory for and artist. In 10 years from now I hope to be on the next upcoming artist list of music influences. I also see myself being in, or starring in some A-list movies. I also see myself ushering in the new talents of tomorrow, starting in my own home with my children. My most wanted aspiration in 10 years from my career is to be running my own family- based entertainment brand, fashion brand, and many other businesses.
