IAA INDUSTRY NEWS : What city and state are you from?

DIAMOND DOWNS: I was born and raised in the south end part of Louisville, Kentucky.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS : What is your music background?

DIAMOND DOWNS: My musical background consists of chorus and orchestra classes. I’ve always known that music would play a huge role in my life since a young age. I love different genres of music as well. Such as, soul, country, jazz, alternative, rock and roll, etc. Growing up I couldn’t wait to turn the TV on to “106 and Park”. “Freestyle Friday” was probably my favorite segment of the show. I also have a Grand Father that is no longer with us, that was in a band called “New Birth”. The New Birth band performed in the late 60’s early 70’s. They also appeared on the television show “Soul Train” which was a huge hit during the 70’s and further. Years later there music is still relevant, influential, and sampled. One specific artist who sampled a piece of their song called “Wild Flower” is Jamie Foxx. Jamie’s Hit single “Unpredictable” had a sampled piece at the beginning of the
song, respectively. As I have evolved and aged, my love for music grew.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS : Why do you want to record and release your own music?

DIAMOND DOWNS: I would like to record and release my music because it’s the next step in taking control of my career. Collecting royalties and receiving love from the fan base are two things that I indeed would like to embrace and ultimately tackle. I feel if you are involved musically with every little detail your career is surrounded around you’ll be more educated and hands on rather than if you weren’t.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS :What are your songs about?

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS :Who is your fan base directed towards?

DIAMOND DOWNS: My fan base age range is from 15-35. I say those specific ages because for my younger crowd I try to encourage them to make better decisions and to stay focused on what really matters, which is education and respect. For the older crowd, I try to make music they can dance and relate to. You would be surprised of the amount of people that have been through similar situations as you.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS : Who are your musical influences?

DIAMOND DOWNS: My musical influences are Tupac Shakur, Biggie Smalls, Eminem, Eve, and Da Brat. I was most influenced by Tupac specifically because of his aggression, pain, and ability to defeat all odds. Biggie smalls influenced me with his word play, humor and dedication. Eminem influenced me with his lyricism, metaphors and the ability to succeed despite his ethnicity. Eve most influenced me with her rawness and fearless characteristics. Da Brat influenced me with her Gangster style. I get a lot of comparisons to Da Brat vocally.

I would also describe my music as being bold and truthful. I’m not afraid of expressing my feelings and people can relate to that.
