All eyes are on Philadelphia, Pa. after a video released by a journalist was released to the public and spreading through social media channels rapidly. Tyree Carroll, a Black 22-year-old city man from the city, was beaten by around 26 Philadelphia Police officers after he allegedly was stopped for riding his bicycle down a street going the wrong way.

The clip was posted online by Los Angeles journalist and blogger Jasmyne Cannick, who usually focuses on the happenings of the LAPD. Cannick posted Carroll’s clip online, sharing some of the details of the April arrest and beating incident that unfolds in graphic nature.

From Cannick’s blog:

A new video out of Philadelphia shows a young Black man being severely beaten and tased by Philadelphia officers in what can only remind you of Rodney King who was beaten by the LAPD and Marlene Pinnock who was beaten by the CHP.

On April 3 at approximately 7:30 p.m. Tyree Carroll, 22, was riding his bike on Locust Avenue in Germantown–near his home where he lives with his grandmother Nancy Carroll. According to family members, Tyree was stopped by a police officer for going the wrong way on a one-way street.

When he was stopped by the police officer, Tyree obeyed and got off of his bike and spoke with the officer. The officer then proceeded to put Tyree’s hands behind his back before four policemen were suddenly on top of him. One police officer put Tyree in a chokehold and wrestled him to the ground.

On the video, as Cannick writes, Carroll can be heard screaming for his grandmother for help as the police swarm in on him. At one point, an officer can be heard saying “Tase the motherf*cker” in the background.

According to witnesses, there were 24 white and 2 Black police officers involved in the arrest. Carroll was slapped with several charges, including aggravated assault, simple assault, and resisting arrest. Caroll was allegedly also found with a small amount of crack cocaine on his person as well.

Watch the confrontation between Tyree Caroll and the Philadelphia Police Department in the clip below. A warning: the video is graphic.
