FLETCHER G: I’m from the nation’s capital Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
FLETCHER G: My musical background is very diverse. It includes poetry R&B and hip-hop. At a very young age I’ve been taking in different genres of music since my mother listened to French pop, Haitian music, and English pop and soul from the likes of Marvin Gaye to Michael Jackson.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?
FLETCHER G: I want to record and release my own music because I believe there is a story for everyone. I also believe that my story whether good or bad can influence people from making the mistakes I made in life. I want to help them cope with the same situations I went through in life as well. Music isn’t just music to me, it’s my life. It’s what defines me as a person and helps me heal and conquer my demons
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
FLETCHER G: My songs are a story about my life. Each song tells a story about a specific part of my life whether it was just for a day or a week or a month or a year. It all relates back to me as a person, and how the music I write defines the man I am today.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
FLETCHER G: My musical influences are Michael Jackson first and foremost because his music pushed me to sing better to dance, to feel every note you sing. Kanye West is another, Kanye has taught me that nobody can stop me from achieving my dreams as an artist, and that my music whether it be released on a label
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
FLETCHER G: If I were to describe my music to people I would have to say that my music is hip-hop and R&B, but with a twist. A story line that everyone can relate too and with a bit darkness with some uplifting treble and bass.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?
FLETCHER G: What makes me stand out from other artist is that I’m not afraid to be who I am in my music and in real life. I only speak of what I have been through in my life.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in your music career and how did you overcome?
FLETCHER G: When I was 17 I went off to college, and I wasn’t hearing any feed back from my city regarding my music. I was at a cross road to take my rugby career seriously and drop music or continue music. I ended up leaving for college trying to do both. It ended up being the best decision I ever did because I ended up meeting VKA who was signed to Shady on a developmental deal. He sat down with me and helped me form the sound I have today. He brought me to all up and coming artist showcase to perform and to network and since then i have had a following in Toronto.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?
FLETCHER G: I am working on are my EP which is called “Tainted” and will be out at the end of them summer. I am also working on the “CasaCrouse” album and Cypher. The Cypher will be filmed in August as well. I am also working on my close friends “Ceerouse” mixtape which will be out in Late August, early September.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
FLETCHER G: My career goals are to build a sustainable buzz and fan base which will lead to a great brand where eventually I’ll be able to give my 2 daughters the keys to success if they ever want to venture off into the music business. In 10 years I see myself still making music and releasing albums and doing concerts as well as managing artist and being able to guide them throughout to a successful career.
