IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?
TONE LOW: I’m from the DMV area. For people that isn’t familiar, that is the DC metropolitan area. I lived in DC for a few years and Virginia for a few years. However most of my life was spent in Maryland. Graduating high school and spending most of my time in Hyattsville MD, a small city on the border of DC. That’s where I learned the most about music in general. I learned how to deliver my music better, performing, moving the crowd while performing, and a multiple of different tools that I will use to my advantage. Hyattsville MD is really where I caught my buzz from.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
TONE LOW: Music has always been in my life, every since I was a young kid. I always had music to go to no matter how I was feeling. When I turned the age of 8 I had my mind set I was going to be the best rapper ever. So I started writing. Over the years as I got older I got better. I tried different styles & flows to work on my childhood goal of being one of the best rappers to ever do it.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?
TONE LOW: First it starts when I write. Every time I write I challenge myself to write something better than my last song/verse etc. When I record my music I love to hear how everything comes together. After I record I like to hear people’s opinions and see reactions to my music. Good or bad. I honestly feel I can change the rap game with my music. When I release it I can share my songs with an audience that appreciates it as much as I do. I get a rush when people know & sing my songs. That shows me that all the work/ money I put into my career didn’t go unnoticed and people are noticing good music.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
TONE LOW: My songs can be about a variety of different topics. I try to be as versatile as I can so I can reach a larger audience. That being said I’m going to have my songs for club or strip club; I’m going to have my songs for the stoners, especially for the stoners. I’m going to have my songs for ladies or my songs for the hood. Also I’m going to have my songs to motivate & uplift people. I want to touch my audience in different angles & ages. I challenge myself not to be set on talking about 1 or two things all the time. I feel like that’s the challenge in rap that a lot of people don’t want to take.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who is your fan base directed towards?
TONE LOW: My fan base is directed toward anyone that’s ready to witness a new movement. Especially the stoners. Marijuana is a big inspiration in my music. That being said I really believe the younger crowd will grasp onto my style quicker. Between the ages of 13 and 30. If I can have it my way everyone will be at a Tone Low show smoked out jamming out. It’s coming soon so get your lighters ready.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
TONE LOW: My musical influences include a lot artist from different time periods in my life. Like for an example Wiz Khalifa is one of my favorite rappers because he showed the rap game it’s cool to do your own thing. U can be talented at doing your music & don’t pay attention to the people that don’t like it. He’s been consistent at making good music for a long time. But my favorite era in rap that I gotten a lot of my influence from is the 90s-early 2000s. Most of my favorite artists come from that era. Ludacris, Outkast, Jay Z, Pac, Biggie, TI, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg all had an influence on my music and me wanting to do music in the first place. It’s a lot more but I’m just going to keep it short. I’m just a fan of rap music, always been.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
TONE LOW: My music is different. It doesn’t sound like anything that’s out right now. On every verse I add a few clever lines that make people think. One of the best artists to do that was Lil Wayne. With his creative metaphors as a fan that got me excited & I wanted to replay that verse or song over and over again. That’s the type of reaction I want from people. I want people excited to listen to the new Tone Low because they excited to hear what I come up with next. The hits going to keep coming so listen up for them.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?
TONE LOW: I love answering this question. What makes me stand out from other artist is first I stay humble. I’m thankful for every blessing I get. I know its thousands of rappers that are trying to make it in the industry just like I am. That’s why I appreciate every blessing because it’s a stepping stone to move me ahead of the competition. Second I would like to become a successful business man. So I’m constantly on the move. I’m always talking to people or handing out/ posting flyers around my city. I love communicating with people and hearing different opinions about my music. That’s going to help me build my business in the long run. I’m not just trying to follow trends or rap about what’s hot at the moment. I want to put out music that’s flow, voice, lines and overall style is all mines. I feel all the greats had they own style and flow that made them unique. Nobody ever had been considered one of the greatest sounding like someone else.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
TONE LOW: I have two big career goals that I have no doubts that I will accomplish. One day I’m going to be hands down one of the best rappers to ever do it. No argument, big statement to say. But I’m confident in the talent, work ethic, and support I have that will help me get there. My Second big goal I’m going to accomplish out my career is when I’m dead & gone I going to make sure I have something to pass down to my kids and they have something to pass down to their kids. In 10 years I see myself continuing a very successful music career. I see myself selling out large venues, albums selling, and the biggest artist out at that time.
