IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?

J.NORM: I am from Philadelphia, PA

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?

J.NORM: Lyrical hip-hop, relative rap

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?

J.NORM: My songs are mainly about my past, present, or future. I also use people who I know and have gotten approval from to use their stories of life to create songs. I lie to rap about politics, poverty, issues in general would be best sum it all up.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your favorite song to perform and why?

J.NORM: My favorite song to perform would have to be “Crazy” because it gives me the chance to step out of my usual bar spitting element and be really energetic and interactive with the people I’m performing in front of.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What has surprised you the most in the pursuit of a career in music?

J.NORM: My biggest surprise was that it’s more to it than just being good. I had the idea of if I dropped some hot bars it would be nothing to blow up. And finding out that it’s not that simple really opened my eyes more and I had to learn the business side of music.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?

J.NORM: Old School hip-hop mostly guys like Rakim, Kool G Rap, 2Pac, Sugar Kill Gang, Kool Moe D, Kurtis Blow, L.L. Cool J, and the great RUN DMC. I like Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem and Kanye West as more of my of age influences.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?

J.NORM: I would describe it as just what it is, It’s me it’s the way I see the world and the way I want to express myself and the people who don’t have the voice to speak out for themselves. My music is something that you feel and rewind over and over to get all the underlying metaphors or meanings. It’s educational and fun for the mind.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?

J.NORM: I feel like I stand out more because I am truly different from anything you get in the rap game right now. The level of creativity I put into a verse is deep very deep it causes you to want to hear more. I make people challenge themselves and I surprise the most obscure doubters I have with the lyrics I create. I believe rappers even artist in general are not going as deep into the thought process as me. Plus I am versatile I can switch my flow to any beat never being the same constant 1,2 step.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What would you like to see changed in today’s music industry?

J.NORM: I want the force feeding crappy music to stop, I want the artist to actually reinvent themselves and stop mimicking to make it. The huge thing about back in the days you couldn’t say a song sounded like the one you heard before it and everyone had a distinct sound. Now you swear that song you just heard was something you just heard like 5 minutes ago.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects that you are currently working on?

J.NORM: I’m working on my first actual mixtape too release titled “Possible Change” then my first album to be released titled T.E.N.S. which is my late brother’s initials.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

J.NORM: My career goals are to work with some of the top artist in the world, everything from Legends to Up and coming. I want to be running my own label with my own artists to produce after having a successful run of my own. If 10 years is too short of a time frame for me to get to running a label I want to at the least be making the type of money that supports me and my kids for the rest of our lives. With good investments and sponsorship deals that have a lasting future.

  1. ok! i really think J.NORM is going to go far, his lyrics speak truth and not BS ….i can really relate to his music ,unlike some rappers you cant really understand what they are saying..They really need to bring back good music like this .

  2. Heyyo my boy J Norm been killin it out there. Shouts out to the Hitman for the work he puts in…its gratifying to us fans as a whole as well as the music industry that hes got somethin fresh to offer. Intelligence bars..shit that really makes i think. Salute!

  3. J Norm is one of the best lyricists I’ve ever heard, since the first song I heard I was hooked and questioned why in the world was he not on the radio and why I had never heard of him, he has meaning, wordplay, great syllable use, his lyrics stand strong and firm, but bend with the wind and never break like the mighty bamboo from start to finish, he has a natural talent for the microphone and performing, the man speaks on life and represents all of us who have been around the block, felt pain and suffering, it would be a crime not put this man where he belongs and that’s up on stage knocking all these fake overnight stars off the shelf, I don’t listen to the radio but if he was played on it, you can bet your ass I would, it’s what he deserves and where he needs to be….not just radio but magazines, TV anything he could possibly get known from, he really knows the struggles of life and I’m proud to be considered a fan, a friend or even family by him…..he’s great and this is what he deserves….

  4. Seriously, I’ve heard his songs, I love his work. As an artist myself, it’s really obvious to see how hard work pays off and J. Norm is a CLASSIC example. 10. J. Norm is a force to recognize. His lyrics aren’t just words with no meaning. He speaks from a place from deep within of life experiences, good and bad, that has shaped him as a man and an artist. He tells his story and others through open eyes and a sincere heart for all to not just hear, but feel. You can relate to his music, he’s a realist. No this: There is nothing normal about J. Norm, he is uniquely talented and a force to reckon with. Salute J. Norm!
