IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?
KASHY: I was born in a small town in Wisconsin and moved around quite a bit during my childhood. Finally settling down in North Dakota at age 17.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
KASHY: My music background is pretty eclectic. I enjoy everything from Whitesnake to Rae Sremmurd and everything in between. I was taught to play piano growing up but can honestly say I retained only a small amount. My mom was really into 90s R&B and although I never really dove too deep into that music style, I can still hear influences of that era in some of my music.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
KASHY: My songs are typically about matters of the heart. I write about emotion, anger, love, pride, really anything that people can feel. I don’t usually write about material things but I don’t avoid it intentionally. My daily thoughts are rooted in positive vibes and I try to translate that to sound while still keeping that modern human element present.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your favorite song to perform and why?
KASHY: It can change with the crowd. But I really love performing my song On The Run. It’s just catchy and I usually have the crowd singing the chorus with me by the end of it. And I think the subject matter being that of freedom from a whack relationship is something that everyone can look back and remember wild nights of realizing that your single.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What has surprised you the most in the pursuit of a career in music?
KASHY: The biggest surprise has been seeing how much people WANT to connect with an artist they like. Starting off in hip-hop your generally told you have to scratch claw and beg for attention or you won’t ever make it. I see a lot of artists implementing those tactics and I see how off putting it can be. My breakthrough was toning it back and bringing my main focus back to great music. I still promote and spread my music as much as I can but I’ve come to love how if it feels genuine, people will want to spread it for you.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
KASHY: My current musical influences would have to be the artists pushing the boundaries. Travis Scott, Childish Gambino, Kanye West.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
KASHY: I would describe it as positive energy with just enough apathy to be relevant.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?
KASHY: In the technical sense, I’m a one man band. I produce, write, rap, sing, and mix my songs. Music wise, I think there are very few who can infuse real lyricism with upbeat, and sometimes experimental, instrumentals like I do and get away with it. I also am somewhat of a concept artist when it comes to the way I approach a project. There’s usually a story line or at least a strong theme to each project I create. Making songs that stand strong alone while still keeping them strung along an overall arch through the project is something I don’t see many artists successfully pull off. I feel that I do.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What would you like to see changed in today’s music industry?
KASHY: The music industry to me is just that. An industry. It naturally selects what is best for business. I truly don’t worry too much about the shortcomings of the business because I believe there is a balancing force that evens out what doesn’t work. I love by the quote “be the change you want to see” I try to create music that lasts and connects with a large audience on a deep level.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects that you are currently working on?
KASHY: I just released an album called From The Heart it’s available on iTunes, Google Play, and everything else. So my main focus is furthering the awareness of that project. I am still in the studio constantly so there will most likely be some loose singles coming out for free.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
KASHY: My career goal would be able to be able to reach out and be heard by the world. I am a pretty competitive person so I honestly couldn’t say anything other than to be the best. Period. In ten years I see myself doing more production and behind the scenes stuff as well as putting out music. But using my success to inspire others would be my 10 year plan.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How can your fans access your music and contact you?
KASHY: KASHYMUSIC.COM I am on almost every social site/music platform on the Internet. All of which can be reached through my website.
