IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?
ILLUSS: I was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
ILLUSS: Well, from what I remember when I was about 12 years old or so, the first few albums I bought was Billy Talent’s self titled debut album and Daft Punk’s, Discovery, album. Later on, I had Ludacris’, Word of Mouf, album given to me from my mom’s friend after I had told him I had never heard it before; after that I started just listening to hip-hop and later on house music.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
ILLUSS: My songs are about me, my experiences, and the knowledge I have gained up until now. I make club songs, love songs, violent songs, dance songs, etc. I make all different types of songs due to my diverse personality and interests, which have gotten me into different situations and enabled me to experience a lot of different things, which I also think is key to be a successful artist.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your favourite song to perform and why?
ILLUSS: If I had only one favourite song to perform, then there’s clearly something missing from my other songs, which isn’t a good thing. All my songs are my favourite, which makes all my songs my favourite songs to perform.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What has surprised you the most in the pursuit of a career in music?
ILLUSS: What’s surprised me the most is how so many people in the world just do what they need to do to get by in life and play it safe. They don’t actually apply themselves to what they truly want in life nor actually figure out what they truly want in life. In turn this has helped me learn a lot about myself and a lot about others.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
ILLUSS: Ludacris was the first artist to inspire me to start making music and from then on came Cassidy, Juelz Santana, Fabolous, and Papoose. In the last 3-4 years, I’ve really grown into my own artist and have been inspiring myself to keep making great music.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
ILLUSS: The best way I could describe my music to people is that it’s a vivid expression of myself, my present life and what I’ve done. In the near future I want to start making dance/mainstream type of songs, while still making Hip-Hop or crossover, I guess you could say.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?
ILLUSS: A lot about me makes me stand out like my delivery, diversity, creativity, consistency, and musicality. I honestly feel like I have a level of musicality like no other in the industry.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What would you like to see changed in today’s music industry?
ILLUSS: The only thing I’d like to see changed is the level of diversity and creativity that a lot of artists in the industry seem to lack. I feel the biggest reason why artists fade off eventually is because they always make songs over instrumentals that fit their style; I feel like they should be tuning their style to fit different types of instrumentals within reason.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects that you are currently working on?
ILLUSS: Right Now, I’m just finishing my first professional project, which will be titled, Genesis. It’s a 10 song project and will be used to start building a solid fan base and get my buzz up.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
ILLUSS: My goal right now is to get signed to a major label and build a fan base on a global scale. Eventually, I want to own my own record label and also be an executive producer. In 10 years, I see myself being successful in the music industry and continuing my journey.
