IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?
G.H.E.T.T.O. PREACHA: Muncie, Indiana
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
G.H.E.T.T.O. PREACHA: Christian gospel rap, gospel rap, and R&B.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
G.H.E.T.T.O. PREACHA: Hope, joy, love, Jesus, living life positively, family , salvation, God’s way of living, marriage, purity, deliverance, a better way of thinking about life, and concept changing.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your favorite song to perform and why?
G.H.E.T.T.O. PREACHA: “I’m Still Here,” it is a testimony of going through a whole lot of hard times in life. I made it, protected by Jesus through it all. I’m still married, I’m still in ministry, and I still have my family. It’s about letting the enemy know I’m still here no matter what the odds are, I’m still here.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What has surprised you the most in the pursuit of a career in music?
G.H.E.T.T.O. PREACHA: What has surprised me is how long it takes to accomplish things in this industry. How difficult it is to get to the platform needed to not just be underground, but to be industry ‘best’. It took 11 years for someone to notice me and my music. Positive rap is not popular unless you hear it first. It rings through the streets underground, but it’s hard cracking the surface in the industry.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
G.H.E.T.T.O. PREACHA: I like all music not just certain artists. If I had to express it, it would be these greats like Kirk Franklin, T.I., Prince, Michael Jackson, and Temptations (passion they put into their music). Kirk’s background inspired me because he came from nothing and allowed God to turn nothing into everything. He tells his life journey in his music to express victory to inspire and help someone else. T.I. because of his structure, his family, unity, and prosperity. His life sends a message all alone.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
G.H.E.T.T.O. PREACHA: Mind blowing expression that is authentic, powerful, electric, and enlightening. I have a motivating and mind changing movement. My music is hype, exciting, and spiritual, but at the same time it’s real down to earth. My music is relatable, and most of all transparent.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?
G.H.E.T.T.O. PREACHA: I’m not a rapper; I’m a preacher or a man of God who happens to rap. I don’t sing, look, or operate like others. My style is me. I’m different. I don’t see myself as a rapper, it’s a vehicle to win souls from a dying generation.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What would you like to see changed in today’s music industry?
G.H.E.T.T.O. PREACHA: Music today sounds the same, everyone conforms to what is trendy, and no one is original. I want to see original artists making a statement, not copycats. I want to make some music to motivate people to do and live positive. To show people that you don’t have to do negative things to be popular or anything.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects that you are currently working on?
G.H.E.T.T.O. PREACHA: Sept 20th Detroit Michigan performance, Oct 10th East Chicago Youth performance, Oct 2nd Muncie performance. I will continue to work on album (Motivation) a mix tap called (God Bangers who used to be Gang Bangers). I will do some collaborations with Dale J. Evans (Indianapolis) Wallace (Indianapolis), Yatti the God Body (Indianapolis), and Davonna Moss (Indianapolis).
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
G.H.E.T.T.O. PREACHA: I want to be a professional recording artist. I want to finish my album by mid-year 2016. I will be touring and promoting the album (Motivation). In 10 years, I will be on every major syndicated show, (BET Awards, Stellar Awards, Red carpet events with family and manager). I want to own my own recording studio. I also want to help others with musical talent, travel the world, and be called one of the greats all in God’s Glory
