IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?
BLAKK OWT: New Orleans, LA

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS:What is your music background?
BLAKK OWT: Started singing in the choir around the age of 13, but also fell in love with Hip Hop and the same. The discipline of being in the choir gave me my focus when it comes to music. I started free styling in front of crowds in 7th grade. It was a group of us young kids rapping with seniors in the morning with upperclassmen and in our own small circle at lunch. This practice carried on in college. I moved to Houston after hurricane Katrina and joined a battle rap circuit, and I was successful. I returned home in 2009 and started a group called Shade 2 Blakk. We had great success with topping internet charts, doing constant shows, and interviews. I began to work on solo projects and had more success with online radio, several Coast 2 Coast Mixtape features, My 1st mixtape went bronze on Datpiff, 2nd mixtape received a hot this week award, and was top 5 on Reverbnation in New Orleans and Houston.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
BLAKK OWT: Tupac, Nas, Kendrick, J. Cole, Drake, Eminem, Trae The Truth, and Z Ro. I need to feel the emotion in songs and these artists bring me to another place.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
BLAKK OWT: It’s realist music. I don’t make fantasy music about a false life I’m living. My music comes from the heart. It stems from how I’m feeling at the moment.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?
BLAKK OWT: I’m not the expected sound of a New Orleans artists. I’m not a trap music artists. I give you my life on a beat. Yeah, I’ve been in the so called “Street Life” but that’s not what I want to glorify.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in your music career and how did you overcome?
BLAKK OWT: When I first started off, I was waiting on studio time and kept getting fooled over and over. I didn’t pay my rent one month to purchase my studio equipment and almost got evicted. A lot of artists don’t know the meaning of sacrifice because they were put in a position and didn’t have to grind for it.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?
BLAKK OWT: I am currently working on my EP , The King Is Back, no release date yet, but I try to keep my voice heard so I have two promo snippets on reverbnation.com/blakkowt called “Dedication” and “Phoenix”.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
BLAKK OWT: I want to be helping artists at an early part of their career because I learned about this industry the hard way. I see myself running my label ForeverLoyal Musik, Inc. full time.
