Koo Qua is an artist who maintains the same substance in her lyrics as she does in her image. An MC since the age of 17 years old, the Aurora, Colorado native has been a mainstay in the world of underground rhyme slaying. Able to maintain her stature alongside the boys of rap coming out of Aurora, Koo Qua has grown her talent since the inception of her first album, 2007’s Chunk of My Mind. In demeanor and also on the microphone, Koo Qua is graceful and determined. Her rhymes stand out because of the tenacity in her words and succinct structure in her verses. Her collaborations with other Colorado artists have included Julox, The Marksmen, Mikey T, and others who appeared on her sophomore album Grown A$$ Woman. The first breakthrough single was an appearance alongside Aurora’s DGirl and Landy for the track “BGT” (Bad Girls Turf). Qua credits her affiliation with Albeez 4 Sheez and ACo Records for streamlining her dream into a viable career as a musician.
In addition to her work as an MC, Koo Qua is an arts advocate and will receive a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts from Metropolitan University in Denver. As a student of the elements that build progressive art, Koo Qua uses her rhymes as her main form of expression. Her first live performance was at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom for its annual 4/20 celebration. Qua’s personal demeanor on stage yielded numerous opportunities to share the stage with E-40 and other established artists from the Colorado music scene.
After the successful run of the five-mixtape series “Vicious Misses,” Koo Qua is stepping out of her comfort zone even further. Focusing on honing her skills in live performance and perfecting the moments of recording in the studio, fans can look forward to a summer release of “Anna Mae, Eat the Cake,” a collaboration with Ladi Lo Key. Additionally Koo Qua has performed with the Lady Wu-tang (an all lady tribute band to the Wu-tang Clan), a tribute to the women of the 90’s and also at the Denver Westword Music Showcase in 2012 and 2013.
Koo Qua has an esteemed presence both on the microphone and on stage that helms her skills as an MC. She is a dynamic and creative force for the progressive upward of movement driving hip-hop music today.
