IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?

PARTY OF 5IVE: The artists from Party of 5IVE are located regionally in the NY/NJ/PA area. We spread about 200 miles apart furthest from each other and a total of about 300 for all of us. Orlando is from Roselle, NJ. Stacy Lymon is from Glenmoore, PA. Flee Jones is from Elizabeth, NJ. Jonny Wygee is from Reading, PA. When we link up we are usually located in Newark, NJ or Reading, PA.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?

PARTY OF 5IVE: Our musical background is rap and hip-hop. Coming from urban areas, hip-hop has been the lifestyle for us. Yet our influences have us trying to incorporate street rap and lyricism into different genres and expand beyond ourselves. As artists we really challenge each other to not only come up with something new, but to step out of our comfort zones and try new backgrounds of music.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?

PARTY OF 5IVE: Our songs are about everything. We talk about life, who we are as people, things around us, visualizing other people’s perspectives, comedy rap, girl problems, media controversies, and everything else you can think of. We really get ourselves out there through our music. The answer to that question really cannot be answered among some words. There are messages through the music and the only way to understand is to listen.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your favorite song to perform and why?

PARTY OF 5IVE: Our favorite song to perform is ‘Molly Crazy’. No doubt about it. The song features all of us and we are in a different element on the song. The song really isn’t about the drug. It is just a song we all decided to have fun on. Jonny’s verse is beyond incredible in the song and it definitely defines us as a group and displays our potential.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What has surprised you the most in the pursuit of a career in music?

PARTY OF 5IVE: The one thing that surprised us is the amount of older people involved in the music industry. Our net age is 25 and we thought we were getting to old to do music whereas the average age of people in the music industry is 41. I think that as a group some of our members put their insecurities first about looking stupid. It is more a mental thing that it’s ok to pursue music at our age, especially if people that are older are still involved in music. We should not have an excuse to let go and be ourselves without judging others.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?

PARTY OF 5IVE: This answer cannot be described easily. Our influences range from different genres, different styles, and different cultures. If you were to go through our music playlists you would find anything from: Nas, Tupac, Taylor Swift, Luke Bryan, Fetty Wop, Daft Punk, 2NE1, Drake, Lil Dicky, Jay-Z, Cyndi Lauper, break music, Haitian music, Spanish music, Kendrick Lamar, and hundreds of others. The one main thing about each artist that influences us is that they are different and create their own styles. Most importantly throughout the group we influence each other. Everybody works together so that people can expand outside their comfort zone and relate to one another.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?

PARTY OF 5IVE: Unique, simply put, it’s indescribable. Party of 5IVE represents a new generation of music in culture that looks to reach beyond borders through the use of hip-hop. We all have our own individual characteristics that can be described. We are more so a symbol of what can be achieved by coming together instead of working apart. Four people are better than one and four can achieve four times as much.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?

PARTY OF 5IVE: It’s very simple. Everything we do. Not only are we talented lyrically. We are not afraid to be who we are. Nowadays you go to shows and see a group and they all dress the same and talk about the same thing. We go so far into being our unique characteristics. It’s almost not really a group it’s more four individuals coming together. It’s also a symbol that it can be done. The one thing we actually stress among each other is to be ourselves above everything.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What would you like to see changed in today’s music industry?

PARTY OF 5IVE: We would definitely love to not only see more talented artists but a different variety. Too often music industry seeks what’s popular instead of what’s unique. I think being unique would draw larger crowds of people. Take Lorde, Fetty Wap, and Alessia Cara for example. You have an R&B singer making a hit record about a lame party, a trapper from urban culture doing shows with Taylor Swift, and a feminist that opposes pop culture. Different things that are new we haven’t seen before. The world is ever-changing and we see the major problem is that society is holding some things back from people. We just want to see it all and more importantly become a part of that change in culture.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects that you are currently working on?

PARTY OF 5IVE: We are currently working on our second project which we have not named yet. What we did for our first project was we recorded some solos and tried some features and saw how we worked together. We released our first project SOTS (Sounds of the Studio) Feb 4 on Soundcloud and YouTube free to the public. With good reception we still stayed in touch, but mainly what we do is take the best of our works and a few features and put them together for a project. We’ve shot videos for our song and have developed individually. It’s almost like a potion with ingredients. One ingredient won’t do anything, but put us all together and amazing things happen. We are planning a new release with 100% original music available through iTunes this upcoming year.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

PARTY OF 5IVE: Our main career goal is not only to stick together but to remain who we are to ourselves. Nowadays you see the music industry creating different types of individuals than the artists they came in. Especially in the hip hop culture. Take Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, Nelly, and 50 cent for example, they came into the industry with a respect for the culture and soon left it for fame. We do not object to what they’re doing, but our objective is to make it in the industry while still being ourselves. We also look to be symbols in society. The fact that we have the opportunity to break social boundaries between different cultures through our music is one of the greatest aspects about us. Therefore we are out to prove that if we can stick together than other people in different cultures can learn understand other cultures. In ten years we see ourselves on top, as the people who were able to make changes just by making music. One line to take from the SOTS project is Orlando’s “Obliterate the nation of it’s dirty shit hatred, one line at a time, ain’t nothing faster than that.”

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How can your fans access your music and contact you?

PARTY OF 5IVE: Simply put, as a group we are easily accessible through our Facebook page and our music on Soundcloud. Orlando is the only one with a direct twitter account (@call_me_Orlando_) and usually group members can be accessed through him. There is no management as everything is done internally (video, music, booking, etc). So through e-mail is the best way to contact the group as a whole and soundcloud.com/partyof5ive has all our songs from the SOTS project.
