IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?
ARIEL RYDER: I was born in Florida, and grew up in the Chicago area. I lived for California for many years, but returned to Illinois for family.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
ARIEL RYDER: My music background began with school talent shows, fashion shows, karaoke contests, and the discovery of the wonderful Dr. Rev. Lena Mclin vocal teacher, composer, pastor, and mentor to many notable artists in Chicago. Whom I met through someone I met while performing at the “Chicago” version of Showtime At The Apollo With Steve Harvey -Arie Crown Theatre. I Went to Southampton, England to record 6 songs with “Artful Dodger”, same producer as Craig David.I recorded the song “Gimme A Sign” with Narada Michael Walden at his Tarpan Studios for the show “Now & Again” (CBS-Paramount). I also wrote and recorded other songs with Narada. I recorded the song “Lift Me Up” and other songs in Quebec City, Canada with twin brothers named Jean and Claude, who make up the group JLM. “Lift Me Up” was released in Europe and Canada. I performed 2 songs during the first LA City Firefighters Awards held at the Kodak theatre. I was hired by the head of the Hollywood Fire Dept. Curtis Marolt in the Chicago area, who partners up with Marissa Diblasio hired me to sing “Clarify” which was released as Mid-Coast All Stars Feat. Ariel Ryder. Star 1 Records’ Laura Patterson released “Earthquake”
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?
ARIEL RYDER: I want to record and release my own songs because there is nothing like getting lost in the music. When you really hit that sweet spot where everyone is in a zone and “feeling” whatever emotion is in the air. I like the universal ability that music has to bring people together. Even if you can’t understand the words to a song, you can still relate to the emotion shared.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
ARIEL RYDER: My songs are about love, about life. Sometimes they are about absolute nonsense and sometimes lacking tact, but those don’t usually “make it” to the official recording process…lol. I do however, love to come off the cuff with random ad libs during live shows. That’s the butter to me and I do love butter. Maybe there will be a song for that one day.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who is your fan base directed towards?
ARIEL RYDER: My fan base is directed currently towards Adele, Justin Timberlake and other like artists. I’d definitely love to add some of those fans to mine!
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
ARIEL RYDER: My musical influences are vast. The list include: Barbara Streisand, Celine Dion, Stevie Wonder, Michael Bolton, Lauryn Hill, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Amy Grant, Paula Abdul, India Arie, Melanie Fiona, Anita Baker, and Toni Braxton. All of these artists have influenced my music mind and style.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
ARIEL RYDER: I describe my music as sultry and emotionally connected to the messages in the songs. I’d categorize the style as R&B with a pop influence.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?
ARIEL RYDER: I stand out from the other artists because I am on-point for live shows. I’m not high-maintenance in recording sessions, and I always like to see the positives and the glass half-full. I also have a look that doesn’t necessarily match the music I’m doing, so there’s that too.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?
ARIEL RYDER: I have quite a few live shows in the Chicago area coming up, and I am also writing new music now. I’m always writing new music. Music is emotional expression, so life can easily turn into a musical.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
ARIEL RYDER: My career goals are to continue to grow as an artist and lyric/melody writer by learning other aspects of the song creation process. Piano is first on the list. In 10 years I see myself stabilized as a very successful music artist, songwriter, actress and candy company (I make fabulous peanut butter fudge!). I will be excited to support causes especially relating to physical/mental health and animal welfare. The home will be discreet and somewhere on a beach with warm water.
