IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?
GRINDAILY: We are from the great lake state. Some call it the glove we call it the mitten. The streets call the city Gun Rue a reputation that was giving by the public because of how things can get here. With that being said we are proud to say Grand Rapids MI is our home town. Lucky Da Realest:” I was born in Lansing MI but moved here when I was very young but spent my summers in Lansing. But I can say this city is what made me into the man I am today.” Reno Corleone:” As for me I was born and raised here on the south side of Grand Rapids.”
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
GRINDAILY : Our music background would be hip-hop and rap because it’s in our culture. It was all we grew up off of helped us with life problems we was facing and to get through the rough times that we endure. hip-hop is our life, that’s why we make this type of music.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
GRINDAILY : Grindaily’s songs are about our everyday lives. The struggles we go through from family issues to personal problems, to what sound and feels good to us. Music that resonates with you (being the public) and our home town.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your favorite song to perform and why?
GRINDAILY : Honestly our favorite song that we cannot wait to perform would be “My City” the reason being because from the chorus “started from the bottom everybody knows that” to “show some love for the city put ya hands up” you can’t help but to feel the energy and vibe because in the chorus you can replace Grand Rapids to whatever city you are from. This track is most definitely a crowd pleaser. The track itself moves the audience like no other.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What has surprised you the most in the pursuit of a career in music?
GRINDAILY : The most surprising thing would have to be how hard is to be heard by the right person. Yes people can listen to us but we don’t think they can hear what we are saying or the message that we are trying to get across. Another would have to be support from our city and those we called friends, like the people we went to high school with to people we played ball with just all together we ask them to listen they do say its real good but won’t take a little time to spread the word.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
GRINDAILY: Our musical influences would have to be Nas from his lyrics to his flow. Wu Tang all the different styles all on one track it was crazy good. The Tribe had that soulful hip/hop feel and they work so smooth together. NWA, the energy and hype to say whatever you wanted to. BIG was a great story teller that can make you relive a moment in his life with his words very deep. I love the way Pac would hit a track you could feel everything he said, there was so much emotion in his lyrics. The list can go on. We are 90’s babies so that whole era of music is what we grew up off of and it shows in the way we put our music together. We look at these MC’s and try to bring back that same feel to hip-hop as they did.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
GRINDAILY: If we had to describe our music it would be real deep, upscale, laid back, dope, and creative really it’s how the beat hits us. We are definitely different in our own way. We keep it real to ourselves so what you hear is what you get. Which is a verity of different things. All real no fabrications, it’s off impulse.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?
GRINDAILY : We strive to be different without changing who we are. We strive to be better every track to every verse, stay in a constant grown. We are always looking to better ourselves so we can make better music for our family, fans, and whoever else is listening. Another thing is we don’t fit in meaning we can only stand out. The chemistry that we have together is a younger version of Wu Tang or The Tribe. We are never satisfied with where we are musical or our status period. So the hunger we have has driven us to do more and to never settle or be complacent. We are far from cocky but confident, we don’t get big-headed with our success or achievements we earned. Also we respect where we came from and how far. We taught ourselves how to mix down and master our work. So everything that would do to our music has our own unique sound to it. We had to write a bad check just to get better equipment to make our sound better. So we know what it’s like to start from the bottom witch makes us appreciate more than other didn’t have to.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What would you like to see changed in today’s music industry?
GRINDAILY : One of the biggest thing we would like to see change in today’s music industry is more of the old school hip-hop and rap. We feel it has left the game with all the new things artists are talking about. More of them aren’t rapping with a purpose, less talk about money and nice cars that they bought and more about what they can relate to because a lot of people can relate to real life issues. We want to see more lyrists and more motivational and inspirational music. For years the game has been polluted with materialistic things that now our young generation is growing up trying to be these images that the music industry has painted for them we could on for hours about this problem. Another thing is more of our big name artist giving back to their community, help build the game up not being threaten by new upcoming artist.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects that you are currently working on?
GRINDAILY : We are currently working on finishing the final touches on our mixtape “Grindaily 365” It has 12 tracks because there is 12 month in a year and we grind daily for 365 days. We are also starting our first album and witch the name is yet to be announced. Another thing is we are working on building a better website so our fans can get access to our shirts, hats and posters, that we are also working on getting, as well as interacting and keeping up with everything we are doing. Last things is we’re trying to get it to when we do shows I our city that half if not all profit made from the show goes to a local charity in our city.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
GRINDAILY : One of our career goals would be getting signed so we can start our own label. Then it would be getting one of our songs on the top of the music charts, have one of the bestselling albums, going on tour either with a big name or even on our own. Another thing would be work on a project with Nas, J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, and other big names that inspired us. Being on the cover of XXL Freshman Magazine, being invited to be on “Sway in The Morning” would definitely be another career goal. In the ten years we see ourselves being labeled one of the greatest duos if not the greatest duo of all time.
