JOHN TAYLOR: I am from Belmont, North Carolina

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?

JOHN TAYLOR: None of my family played any instruments or sang in any bands, but my family was really into music. I grew up on hits from Motown and down south outlaw music from my father (Tim Brown). My brother (Cory Brown) is the person who exposed me to hip-hop and rap music at a pretty young age. He was into artist such as Nas, Jay Z, Outcast, and the list goes on. I can truthfully say that without my brother guiding me in the way of music and life, I wouldn’t be where I am at today.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?

JOHN TAYLOR: I want to record and release my own music for one because I like to have a say in most of the things that I do. Such as work with the people I want to work with and make the music I want to make. I also just love making music! If I can give that to people and have them actually listen to what I am saying and feel something when they hear it. That’s what I make music for and that’s why I will always love what I do.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?

JOHN TAYLOR: Most of my songs speak to events I’ve gone through or am going through at the moment. I like to pride myself with being 100 on all of my tracks. Music is pure or can be very pure. So I try my best to make music in the purest way. I also have fun, party songs. With the good always comes the bad, and I like to try and capture that with my music.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who is your fan base directed towards?

JOHN TAYLOR: My music really speaks to all different crowds, from ages 15 to 35. You don’t necessarily have to be into rap music to like my songs. I bring a lot of story telling and tracks that you could rock out to in the club. Some family friendly and some not so much, but you will always have a good time listening to my tracks.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?

JOHN TAYLOR: My first would be my brother because he really introduced it to me. Nas because my brother would always play Illmatic and Stillmatic which made me get into it. I was just astonished by his word play and story telling ability. Ever since then artist such as, Ludacris, Jay Z, Wiz Kahlifa, Eminem and many others. Ive also been inspired by so many musicians before my time, such as The Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Rolling Stones, and the list goes on.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?

JOHN TAYLOR: I would like to describe my music as real and very easy to vibe to. You can listen to it anywhere you go, and it brings a message. I put so much passion into every track that I create and that’s why I feel like people relate to my music the way that they do.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?

JOHN TAYLOR: Personally I feel like me being myself and not trying to be “cool” or “rich” is one of the reasons I have stood out thus far. I go into the studio and have a good time not trying to listen to what everyone else says. I feel like that’s why people are able to connect to my music.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?

JOHN TAYLOR: I am currently working on a mixtape called Two for the Money, with an artist from St. Louis. I am also working on my follow up from my Ep The Birth. With this project I am bringing a totally different side of me. I am coming with a real fun and super dope vibe.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

JOHN TAYLOR: My career goals are to wake up every day and do what I love, making music. I plan to work with a lot of the artist I have looked up to for a long time. I have no limitations or ceiling with the places I could go with my music. In 10 years I plan to be living comfortable in Uptown, Charlotte. I want to make transcending, timeless music. With all of the artist and people I always have wanted to work with.
